“Lovely experience great location”
Reviewed 26 January 2013

We live in Melbourne and have just had two nights here for a weekend away. We were able to park out the front and catch the tram into the city, very easy, the location here is very good. We found all staff to be professional and genuinely friendly. The hotel is quite charming, a few years old now but the room we had was very well maintained and up to date certainly not dated at all. Beautiful comfortable king bed, great bathroom big tv and quality extras provided. We had a comp drink in the bar which was appreciated, the bar was busy every time we went there, the bar is probably a little dated now...as is the restaurant, but still very good. Breakfast was great, as was the drinks in the bar.
I would definitely stay here again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in 408 I am sure all the rooms are good quality.

The staff at the front desk were excellent. From getting a tee time for my husband, to getting us seats for War Horse. They helped with reservation and place to shop. They were great. The hotel was very comfortable and very clean. The only thing was The Dish restaurant was just fair. There were much better restaurants for the same high price.

We will continue to stay at the Royce when we need accommodation near Melbourne city as it never disappoints. Fantastic value for money, always clean and a very yummy breakfast. Perfect for our one or two night stop overs.

The location is ideal with the tram intersection very close to the hotel so you can head off in any direction you choose. Very easy and quick to access to the CBD.

The Amber lounge located under the hotel is also very nice for a quick drink or 2.

Stayed at the Royce Hotel for 4 out of 5 last Oz Open Tennis Opens. Love this place. the location is sensational. Out of the hussel and bussle of the city but so close. Overlooks Melbourne Grammer and St Kilda Road. Tram and Taxi at the door step. Easy trip to Flinders Street, Sth Melbourne & St Kilda beach that are minutes away. Tram it or walk to Melbourne Park complex (MCG, TENNIS, AMMI PARK). Parks to run through (such a great run) , Markets to visit are easy to get to.

However we have encountered problems with the accomodation each time. From small cramped rooms (believe most have been renovated now) which means we upgraded this time to a Premier 1 bedroom suite, to things in the room not working. Unfortunately even the Premier suite had some major problems.

The suite (317) on this occassion was initially sensational. Balcony overlooking St Kilda Rd, very comfortable, clean & roomy. Two big screen TVs and very comfortable king size bed. Couldnt work out what was going on with the light switches though. Turned on the bedside lamp and that made the bathroom light turn off ( much to my wife's horror). Serious problems with the wiring of the switches.

Then on the 3rd night of our 3 night stay we had time to try the spa bath ( single bath with spa jets) and it wouldnt work. Manager inspected (great service) and determined it was dead. Unfortunately it then kept turning itself on throughout the night - Great night sleep gone. Staff offered to move us but a 1am pack and move was not on. We were compensated with generous discounts from rates and mini bar.

Our recommendation is that Royce Hotel is a sensational place to stay, with it's excellent Melbourne location, very friendly staff, sooo clean and very attractive rates and upgrades,,,, but the downside is
When you check into your room make sure everything works there and then. From the iron to the spa. The staff will help to the very best of their capability. We'll be back again for the Oz Open in 2014.

Room Tip: Insist on a balcony overlooking St Kilda Rd

Always happy with this hotel, good service, good food, lovely room.
Next to the Royal botanical gardens which is a blessing in the hubbub of the city, close to restaurants and central station, no need to hire a car you are a team ride away from everything :$

I have stayed at this hotel recently whilst on a business trip to Melbourne. It is a good hotel close to the St Kilda Road business district and the rooms, whilst not overly large are very functional and are very clean. The service is good, but not exceptional, and food options are ok, but a little expensive. The view I had was of another building, so not really good, and there is no balcony. It is a very functional hotel I would be happy to stay at again.

We chose Royce Hotel for a weekend getaway from the children and was extremely surprised. The decor was lovely and everything was really well maintained. The room (a Superior Room) was large and comfortable and laid out. Also has a variety of teas available in the room and although I broke a mug while making a tea, a replacement arrived in under 5 minutes. The staff were helpful and friendly, with everyone saying hello if they saw you in the corridor or lobby.
We had breakfast at The Dish, which was very nice, everything you'd expect in a buffet breakfast and then walked down to Southgate for the day, including Victoria Markets and then walked back. Toorak Rd is just around the corner and St Kilda Beach is also a small walk from the hotel. The valet car parking was full but there is plenty of parking outside.
The only thing that I could suggest to the hotel is, although I love weddings and there was no extra noise or annoyance from the wedding there when we arrived, all the guests waiting for the bride and groom were standing around in the lobby, blocking the hall going to the elevators for the room. We had pillows and a couple a bags and it was just awkward trying to get through all the people with these in tow.
But otherwise, have already recommended this hotel to a friends for a wedding and for general stays and we will stay here again ourselves, when we get the chance. Thank you so much for making our weekend enjoyable and hassle free.

Room Tip: Check for deals through their website to get a great deal on the bigger rooms.
