“A disgrace”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

This place is a filthy old cold, dump. The Foyer was old and tired, but room 206 was filthy mould covered the bathroom ceiling, the tiles on the floor had not been washed or cleaned the carpet had stains all over it, and holes in it.The bed only has a old brown blanket on it, no Doona or Bedspread on it, and the table in the room had dirty marks on it still even though the cleaner had just left the room as we arrived. We checked in went up to our room took photo's of the filth and went and looked for another Hotel, we checked out as soon as we found one,we did not stay here at all as i would not have wanted to take my shoes of and have my feet touch the floor or tiles. Avoid this dump at all costs i have stayed in cleaner Backpackers, theres no excuse for filth.

Room Tip: Dont stay here if you want a decent room or sleep

the hotels decor is old and outdated, the rooms ares poorly lit with basic facilites, ie working bathroom , the room interiors are old and glumy and consist of cold nights, the first few nights were spent on the 3rd floor room 306 i think from memory, the noise from the street traffic is quite loud,

after a couple nights i got a phone call from reception advising that i would have to move rooms the following day when i asked why the response was oh didnt you know the whole floor needs extensive cleaning

so was then moved to the 6th where the wind and noise is not as bad room was still poor

i justed it as a crash pad from nights out on the town but even then i would never stay here again

They cancelled my booking 7 hrs befroe checkin saying they were overbooked. They blamed Wotif.com who denied this and told me that Wotif not control a hotel's stock.
I can't prove it but feel that Wotif were more upfront and believable.
The hotel staff member's attitude was not very couteous or helpful - they said they were giving me a "couretsy call" at the request of the manager. (I explained that they chose to use Wotif to sell their stock and that they should feel some repsonsibility in the matter even if they thought Wotif was to blame. The staff member replied they didnt even have to call me. I encouraged them to place some pressure on Wotif if the hotel felt that Wotif were to blame - the staff declined to do this and suggested I take it up with Wotif. I still believe Wotif's version

Stayed here for one night and woke up covered in bed bug bites. What more is there to say?

We stayed for 4 nights over the F1 weekend and I was apprehensive after reading the last post. Booked months ago so was prepared for the worst. However we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. OK for the price. Check in was swift, courteous and helpful..

Beds were spotless, crisp clean sheets and the room generally neat and tidy. After all, it is is an old hotel so we weren't expecting 5 star furnishings. The staff were great..more in a minute.

Thursday night it rained, and rained....(it is Melbourne after all) The new air conditioner mounted by the double bed leaked water down the inside of the room..A good trickle. Phone call to reception and a bundle of towels was forthcoming within minutes and much apologies. Not their fault. The AC installer had left open a 120m/m hole in the brick wall for 50m/m of tubing, the water simply ran down the outside of the building and in through the hole. Next morning it was fixed. Couldn't get better than that, so 5 stars for service. Also the shower head needed a new washer as it sprayed sideways. Asked once and again fixed straight away. As the managed said, "If we know about it we'll try and fix it"...Moral there: ask nicely and you will usually get a positive reply.

Pros: Good cheap accommodation, good clean beds, close to the Albert Park track, 10 min walk, trams almost outside door, hospital 200 mtrs down road. "Sort of" quiet neighborhood apart from road noise in front. Lovely parks nearby
Cons: Not 5 star so don't expect it.
That tram! Noisy at night and early morning from 5AM Book for high floor and at the back Rooms 2 or 7 are good.

Room Tip: See above. Rooms 2 or 7 on each floor, higher up is better

Worst accomodation experience of my life. Never experienced this filth even in The multiple backpackers I have stayed at. Avoid at all costs!!!! The place is terrible without roaches but this was just a whole new level. Poor me has been booked here for 2 weeks.

Where does one start, the rooms are very small, the ensuites are bloody awlful. The cleaning of the rooms is very inconsistent, we stayed 3 days, carpet not vaccumed at all, rubbish left in the bins, used towels in the ensuite but to name a few. Its a very old hotel that needs a major renovation which if done would bring it right up to speed and justify the prices being charged. Full rack rate is $250, we got it for $88 which was fine as we were just down from the Alfred Hospital for a sick family member. That said, the bed was hard, the pillows were the absolute worst I've ever had to sleep with. Hotel facilities are basic, no restaurant, yet breakfast can be had in the lobby each morning. Just across the road is a lovely little coffee place, whilst 200 metres up the road is a wonderful pub that serves great food. The pluses are that it has car parking onsite, 24/7 reception and its very close to Chapel Street, the Alfred Hospital (opposite side), some wonderful food joints just up the road. So if you can handle traffic noise from 2 of Melbournes busiest roads, the decor and the fact that this is indeed a very old hotel with mininal facilities then you won't have a problem. If you are expecting any more than at best 2 Stars, forget it stay elsewhere and pay accordingly. If money was spent updating this hotel, it would be money well spent indeed but somehow I just can't see that happening.

Room Tip: Up high, facing north, reduces the street noise and gives you a wonderful view of the Melbourne City...
