“Awesome bike ride”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

This is a unique bike trail that lets you circumnavigate the city almost entirely on dedicated bike paths, approximately 30km. Navigation can be a challenge at times and we used a book called "The Casual Cyclist's Guide" which was really helpful and highly recommend it. We did this cycle many times when we visited Melbourne for 3=2 weeks in April 2012, in different directions and always with detours into city suburbs to explore and stop at our favourite cafes.

I have a couple of blogs that might interest. Firstly, cafes visited in Melbourne by bike; http://spottedatespressomelbourne.wordpress.com/ and what to do in Sydney if you have 7 days; www.sydney-jono.blogspot.co.nz

“can't believe this is Melbourne's main bike trail...”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

the condition of the path is fine, but good luck to tourists working out where the hell to go. signage is almost non-existent. hard enough finding your way even as a local!

“Great ride and access route with kids”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

Loops Melbourne CBD. There is plenty of places to access from the trail, which you can see on the map from bicycle Victoria. so many things for the kids to do, zoo, children's farm Federation square etc. Use the trail to access foodie places as well: Victoria st vietnamese (get off at gipp st steps) Great bakeries (Dench, Loafer and cavallinis). It is a safe passage for kids on bike and you can access so much with them.

“A nice ride but could do with some updating.”
Reviewed 23 January 2012

This is a nice and relatively flat bike route that takes you on a loop of the inner north of Melbourne and including quite a large section along the banks of the Yarra River. It's about 30 kilometres in total so it's probably better to do sections rather than the whole loop. The part between Federation Square and Abbotsford Convent is good, also the section from Abbotsford Convent to the Melbourne Zoo.

Around Abbotsford there is a couple of sets of stairs as the path goes up, down and over the river which are a bit of a hassle, also the signing is poor in areas so try and get a map before you set off so you don't end up going too far off the trail.

“A great varied cycle trail”
Reviewed 20 December 2011

This trail is sealed all the way, and only has one inconvenience; your bike has to be carried up/down one flight of steps, but it's a small price. It;s a pleasant, easy, flat ride, passing through quiet leafy suburbs and through the southbank / docklands area of the city. Good stop-offs are at Collingwood chidrens farm, or The Zoo. Great coffee (and food) to be had at Kanteen (opposite Herring Island), Growers espresso (Georges road) and at the Studley Park Boathouse in Yarra Bend Park.
