Owner description: The Royal Exhibition Building is one of the world's oldest remaining exhibition pavilions. On 1 July 2004, it became the first building in Australia to achieve a World Heritage listing. Located in Carlton Gardens, the pavilion was originally completed in 1880 for the first of two international fairs hosted by Melbourne. On May 1st, 1901, the initial Commonwealth Parliament was held here, an event commemorated in 2001, the centenary of Australian Federation. Today, with its meticulously restored interior, expansive galleries and soaring dome, the Great Hall offers an impressive setting for trade shows, fairs and cultural and community events.

I went there for the Food and Wine festival. The building inside is really airy, spacious and structurally fascinating.

This impressive space used to be a parliamentary building in the early 20th century, but is now mainly used for exhibitions/fairs. It's not generally open to the public, but is an amazing space in terms of scale and the murals on the walls.

Situated just outside Melbourne CBD but worth the effort. A beautiful old building once used for exhibitions. The gardens surrounding the building are very nice plus its close to Lygon Street

We took the 50 minute tour (2pm daily) and it was well worth the $5. Our guide was knowledgeable, but a little nervous, and the building has so much history. theres not much inside but its vastness and beauty meant plenty of photo's. The gardens are also nice. We went because we saw it on Masterchef this year and definitely enjoyed our visit.
