“Just One Night”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Just a single night- 26th anniversary, Check-in staff, paid attention to the booking, and cheerfully offered a complimentary bottle of champagne and some chocolates. So it pays to add this kind of detail to your booking!.

Room was very well appointed and the check-in staff also ensured we had a city view. We choose the hotel, as we had a booking for the Colonial Tramcar restaurant, and it is a few minutes walk from the front of the hotel. Very pleasant stay - would stay here again.

Stayed here to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary for 2 nights. The hotel is located behind the Crown casino on South Bank and is connected to the casino via an air bridge - so convenient! It's only a short walk into the city or to the free city circle tram. There's plenty of dining options along South Bank itself.

We upgraded our room to a corner room with city views and we weren't disappointed; with floor to ceiling windows, large bathroom, king size bed and sweeping views of the city and the bay. The room was clean with tea/coffee facilities and a small fridge.

The staff were extremely professional, polite and responsive. They are a credit to the hotel.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel for it's location, room and staff.

Thank you for making our anniversary simply wonderful.

Forgot to bring my IHG card with me, but after explaining this to reception, finally booked for 2nights. Had a great room on the 7th floor with fantastic views of city skyline.
Concierge staff were very helpfull.

I had done quite an extensive search for hotels in the city, southbank, st kilda and toorak and decided that Crown Promenade had everything that we wanted.

What we liked:
1. Central location. Easy access to freeways and highways. Walking distance to restaurants in Crown which made it easy on my heels. Close mini supermarket.
2. Check in and out was smooth.
3. Concierge was great and extremely helpful. Happy and had a sense of humour.
4. Rooms were comfy and clean.
5. Valet parking is convenient.

What could be better:
1. Water pressure is weak and unstable. Have to turn on shower for a few mins before there is hot water.
2. Had to pay extra for early check in, while the extra wasn't a lot but it would have been good if it was waived when guests have just travelled over 10 hours to arrive early morning. Late check out was extra too and totally not worth it as it was alot of expensive so we didn't take this option.

We would definitely stay here again if we visit Melbourne.

In late March, early April we stayed for a total of four nights (two visits, 3+1 nights) in two different king corner rooms. Overall, we liked the hotel very much, although the room for the one-night stay had two defects: the easy chairs were placed in the entry hall, right against the minibar, and had inadequate light for reading; the HVAC control had no numbers – simply a set of incomprehensible dots and a tendency to blast hot air, despite being set to “maximum cooling”. The bellman was unable to fix the air handling, and the result was a very sweaty night. In addition, this second corner room was quite cramped – many fewer square meters than the first.

The corner rooms have massive amounts of floor-to-ceiling windows, either in a single curved swoop or two long stretches on perpendicular walls. The beds are excellent; robes and slippers are provided; the desk is massive, and there is nice space for opening large suitcases. Our first room had an excellent floor lamp between the two comfortable chairs. The décor was in standard Australian chain hotel understatedness, but the limited edition abstract print in with dominant reds and brown was a nice touch.

The bathrooms were shower-only. There was very nice counter space and an under-counter wood slat rack convenient for toiletry bags. The showers did have clotheslines.

The hotel’s lobby is on the small side with respect to the amount of seating, but it is very pleasant to look at in its sleek modern red, black, white and gray color palette and its strong graphic elements. The Mesh restaurant has a casual, well-priced dinner menu; among the first courses, the oysters Kilpatrick and the rocket salad with walnuts, goat cheese and apples are delicious. At breakfast, it has a very good buffet with choice of cold items only (meats, cheese, fruits and pastries were all excellent) or cold plus hot. The omelet man makes fantastic creations!

The concierge desk staffers are stars! They did an excellent job with our dinner reservations. Unlike the reception desk personnel, they explained how to get free Wi-Fi over multiple nights: ignore the reception desk’s guidance that the first 24 hours is free, then you pay. Instead, sign up anew online for the complimentary option each time a new 24 hour period starts; simultaneous device use is permitted. The concierge staff also saved us from a reception-recommended trek to a health clinic, by giving us the telephone number of the house doctor at a competitor’s hotel. Making an appointment by telephone was a snap.

Whether you gamble or not, the hotel’s connectivity to the Crown Casino creates hours of accessible fun. There is shopping, upscale or not; food courts; casual and fine-dining restaurants; floor shows and great people watching.
