My Father and I recently stayed in this hotel as part of a deal, Pay for 2 nights and get 3rd for free. The location of this place is amazing. You have eveything you need within walking distance, including Casino, Cinemas and lots of food eating places. It is also walking distance to city centre and Etihad Stadium. Upon arrival the staff are excellent, and friendly. We were however given a SMOKING floor....Upon arrival to our level, I think level 21? We were nearly knocked over by the cigarette smell when the lift door opened. We also noticed an ashtray with many butts of smokes next to the lift. Going into our room, the 1st thing we noticed again was the constant smell of smoke. The rest of the room looked amazing. After discussing with my Dad, It was agreed that we go back down stairs and ask to be given another room, as the smoke smell was disgusting. The staff were extremely helpful, and within 10 minutes we were given a new room on the 18th floor. WOW, fresh air, and the room was very nice. GREAT views as well. The bathroom was very big, and the shower very nice. I must say the beds could be a little softer, and the quilt cover not as thick, but the pillows were extremely comfortable. The tv was great. and Foxtel was there to watch as well. The mini bar prices were sky high though, I mean $8 for a bottle of water and $7 for a small bag of cashew nuts etc..... No Thanks. I would return here, but hope to get a city view room. Although I did not use the pool, it looked awesome

Room Tip: Ask for NON smoking and a city view room

I was here for a conference and was very pleased with this hotel. Every staff member was extremely polite and helpful. My room was very clean and quiet. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of food. The location was great with easy access to the conference center as well as to the hub of downtown.

This is not an attack on the hotel - it's a perfectly fine hotel. Modern well equipped rooms, relatively good location, access to various restaurants/facilities at Crown, good enough service.

My personal issue with Promenade is that it's simply not worth the money. My associate and I get given rooms as he is a Signature Club black label/vip gambler, I stay at Crown Towers and Metropol pretty regularly myself and it's just starkly inferior in every way. Crown is a luxe hotel where nothing is compromised, Metropol is a luxe modern hotel that is marketed towards the younger cashed up traveller. I don't really understand what Promenade is meant to be, someone mentioned a poor mans Crown Towers? It's not in any way comparable though. I would put it on the same level as the (renovated) Novotel on Collins, that being perhaps furnished with a higher quality of furniture actually. Or the new Sebel Docklands.

The rooms are in classical tones, however quite dated. There is ugly, unnecessary art work and decoration (white vases, wooden wall work) and very cheap appearing wooden finishes. The pale desks/side table/tv unit don't actually match the wood in the inbuilt mirror corner for example; they are showing their age and simply look cheap. The day bed/couch near the window is nice, the curtains are nice, the fabric long headboard is timeless, the bathrooms are very bland but perfectly fine. If you're going to go stark and modern is needs to be high quality, relevant design and with minimal unnecessary furnishing.

The view in our room was great, perhaps better than the view we get at many towers rooms. Valet was great, didn't get to interact with the front desk besides collecting the key.

The free wifi is fine and appreciated. Unless you're watching a lot of video or trying to upload large files it's more than adequate and generous since many 4/5 hotels offer no free wifi.

The gyms opening hours are restrictive and I've never understood why any hotel that doesn't operate as a commercial gym with staff would feel the need to prevent late night access to guests. Closes at 9, 10 is generally the standard if no 24/7 access.

Room service breakfast menu on the door didn't look appetising enough to bother with. You basically can choose pastries, muesli, eggs or an omelette. Or those in a combo. No al a carte menu basically - 3 star hotels have this. Not even coffee listed.

Aircon is noisy and too hot imo.

Anyway, it's generally $180-$300 a night (Metropol is often the same price or cheaper..). It's $238 and $278 the next 2 days for example, Metropol is $258 a night... The Grand Hyatt runs between $225 - $350 a night, Park Hyatt runs between $250 - $400, newly opened Sheraton is $250 - $295, Art Series run $150 - $250, Adelphi $200 - $300, Westin $250 - $350, Langham $250 - $350. If you wego/hotelscombined them often even cheaper. Wotif and Lastminute secret hotels have the Grand Hyatt for $190 - $250, Sofitel at $220-$250, Marriot about $200 on a pretty much permanent basis if you don't care about loyalty points (they are very easy to work out).

The casino is a pretty tacky place also. Good restaurants if you are in the area or specifically want to go to one, but the CBD is the heart of Melbourne and where everything fantastic is. Some pockets of it are literally filled with restaurant after restaurant of highly acclaimed places that are equally as great and surrounded by bars that aren't completely soulless.

If you are choosing a hotel rather than your work putting you there and like the casino stay at Metrpol for the a similar price. If you like modern minimalist design look at Sebel Docklands, the new Sheraton, Tyrian Apartments in Fitzroy or some of the many new listed boutique apartment hotels available.

Room Tip: Ice room is next to 89. I would avoid 89 90 and 88 91

Dear ladyfitch,

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate the detailed response to give us a better understanding on our guests’ perspective and how we can improve our Service and Product.

We appreciate that the décor may not be to everyone’s taste, however we're fortunate to have 3 distinctly different styled hotels all located on the one site. Our rates will vary depending on demand and the time of the year – special events for example will increase the room rates across Melbourne. Whilst our rates are competitive to many similar hotels, a distinct difference is the experience of being part of such a dynamic Resort. With a number of restaurants, bars and entertainment all under the one roof, there is something for everyone.

We hope to welcome you back again soon for a more positive experience.

Stayed here for 6 nights attending a conference. I had a room on the 23rd floor with a fantastic view out over the Yarra and beyond. The bedroom was mnodern, very comfortable bed, walk in shower, mini-bar, working desk and a chaize-lounge by the floor to ceiling windows! The only bit about the rooms I felt could be improved is the provision of a clock youn could msee in the night without putting the light on! The current clocks are very nice,... but. The breakfast was of a high quality, variety and even had some mango smoothies which were delicious. The bar was always empty in the evenings- maybe time of year- but it did mean I coulod do some work without any noise interference. There ia table tennis table , just outside the bar and an 'infinity swimming pool ' on the third floor which had warm water and was 20m? long with a hot tub at one end which was very welcome!!

The hotel is close to the Melbourne Conference Centre which can be even close if you go through the casino with its multiple casinop gasmes and eating outlets of differing prices, types of restaurant and some with good 'special' deals.

The hotel is in walking distance from the Melbourne Museum -well worth a visit, whilst the Immigration Museum and the Aquarium are much closer. I also did a river cruise to Williamstown which is well worth a visit as is the walk along the river which gets ypou into the countryside quickly or even to the Olympic Park or Botanical Gardens.

I would happilyn use the hote as a base if returning to Melbourne and found all the staff very helpful.

Here for business at a conference at the hotel. Has all you need, quite new but not the same obviously as crown towers as the price shows. Basic and simple but still all the facilities you'd need. Nice room service menu. Easy access across to the Casino and to the riverbank ( not that close but maybe 5 minutes walk). If you had meetings in the city it would be a bit of a hike. If i was on a budget, I'd stay here again for sure.

Stayed for 3 nights in a twin room with our 2 children. Room was modern, clean and tasteful. A bit of a squeeze fitting 2 queen beds into the room, but it didn't really bother us. We were on the 22nd floor and the views of the city from the floor to ceiling windows in the room were amazing! Location was perfect for exploring Melbourne with 2 small children; within easy walking distance to a great variety of food and attractions and several tram stops.
Service was excellent. Everyone we encountered was friendly, attentive and helpful.
A really perfect base for exploring Melbourne; I would highly recommend this hotel.
