What a lovely hotel and the sort I like. It's has been beautifully restored and the room has that olde world charm. The ambiance of the rooms takes you back to "Marvelous Melbourne". The young lady at reception and the manager Mark were friendly and very obliging and we found the continental breakfast quite substantial. There is undercover parking available and the hotel is quite close to trendy Glenferrie Road and handy to the railway station.
We had a delicious dinner in the dining room my wife having Tempura flathead and I enjoyed the smoky, sticky lamb ribs.

Room Tip: The higher floors are a little quieter.

I was in Melbourne for work and this place was perfectly located. I was a bit nervous about it being above a pub and I've got a little bit of an insomnia issue - but I slept like a babe.

First up, the lady at check-in was delightful - very friendly and helpful, and sorted out the $7.50 continental breakfast. It's delivered the night before, and it's fine - bread for toasting, condiments, cereal, fruit salad in a cup, yoghurt, juice. You get charged a lot more for that in fancier hotels.

The room was very spacious and quite nice. Large flat-screen TV, leather (or leatherette) couch, a comfortable bed, plenty of blankets (and a heater in the cupboard), free wifi (get the password when you check in), a desk, wardrobe space and a large bathroom.

The bathroom had a big spa (I didn't use it) and the shower has a fantastic rainshower head (bring a shower cap if you want one - one is not supplied). Great water pressure and no problems with water temperature. Lots of bath/shower gels, moisturisers, soaps etc but nothing worth stealing (jokes).

No mini-bar and limited room service, however as the pub is downstairs (and there's lots of restaurants, cafes and bars in the neighbourhood) this is not an issue.

I didn't hear any sounds from the pub while sleeping, but a) I was on the second floor and b) it was a Wednesday night. It might be a different story on a lower level on the weekend.

All in all, I would definitely stay here again if I needed to be in this area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor - less chance of being disturbed by pub noise and the comings/goings of hotel guests through the door. Room 14 was a good room. Grab the wifi password for free wifi, however note that the signal is apparently weak on the east side of the hotel. If you're after a basic yet convenient breakfast, the breakfast pack is a good deal.

I liked the Glenferrie Hotel. I had a very spacious room, with furniture somewhere between "antique" and "old": maybe "shabby chic" is about right. But it was clean and comfortable, and extremely convenient for Swinburne University. I'd happily stay again.

Stayed here for a few nights ... very convenient for Swinburne, not bad for Melbourne CBD since the train is only a few streets away (Its a 10 min ride in).

My room was right above the pub in the same building. It was loud but not intolerable - I have good earplugs.

Free wifi was a plus in principle but the signal was weak and it occasionally cut out. And that's only one floor up were the signal is supposed to be good. (C'mon guys adding new wifi access points is cheap!)

Breakfast was fairly basic ... meusli, toast etc.

I liked the idea of the spa bath (jacuzzi to N. Americans), but the first night it didnt work at all, and then when it did a bit of "scum" came out of the jets ... hmmmm.

I liked the room furnishings and size of the room was good.

Reception open limited hours so check-in/check-out a pain.

Room Tip: First floor for wifi but not facing street ...
