As a solo traveller, I chose the hotel for the location.
The location of the hotel is really good.
The room was basic and small, but clean.
    The breakfast was basic.
The staff was friendly. I asked for a quiet room and
they did give me one : I did not hear noise from the outside.
But the walls of the room were not thick enough: one could hear
people talking in the next room at night.
But on the whole, it was not a bad choice for staying at this hotel:
the location and the price of the hotel was good.

Understand that this a budget hotel but there is no phone in the rooms and no one who picks up the phone at the reception and no one who returns your call when you leave a message for the guest. This hotel should be classified a motel in the dark ages with zero connectivity. Send the guest a letter in the post- it will reach faster!

I chose this hotel for price and location. The hotel was very well signposted and easy to find, and the location is excellent - close to all major attractions and Bourke St Mall (main shopping area in the CBD).

First impression is that it's a bit poky, with narrow corridors and uneven flooring. You enter on the ground floor and take a lift to reception on level 1. The receptionist was very pleasant and friendly - because we've been to Melbourne a few times before, we didn't require any further assistance from staff.

The room was very basic which is what you expect from a budget hotel. Noise travels through the building from other guests walking down the hallways (maybe from the uneven flooring), as well as from rooms above.

Ensuite was very small, with shower, sink and toilet.

Linen provided was towels and bedding only - no hand towels, face washers or bath mats (that was a surprise to me).

I would have felt that it was better value if I'd paid less (it was $111 for 1 night), however location was great. Next time though, I'll spend the extra money and stay at the Mercure Welcome (stayed there a few times before and it is fantastic - stayed here this time for price).
