I agree with Barbara W's review completely. The only good thing about the place was the beautiful beach. It is a pity the proprietors don't channel some of the proceeds of the site fees back into maintaining the amenities and the grounds. I won't be recommending Barn Hill Station to anyone

We'd heard good reports from other travellers on this place. The location is stunning, but compared to the long term stayers who seem to have more than their fair share of the lovely shaded areas, we tourists on the way to somewhere else get the dry, dustbowl at the northern end, with no shade and definitely no grass (unless you plant and water it yourself, which apparently some travellers do!!) Amenities are basic but that's part of the charm. Just don't expect too much, and arrive early, before noon, to get a spot facing the ocean. And byo gas...no camp kitchen sadly.

Stayed here in off-road caravans- the unpowered area has the best sites as they are along the cliff with views of the beach below. Lots of room, we were there on a Pizza night and they were delicious and reasonably priced. There's outdoor showers and toilets which are rustic and clean. Hot water is heated by pipes in the sun so does run out early if there's a lot of people staying. The best part of this station is the beach- it's so beautiful- red cliffs, white sand and clear aqua blue water. Make sure to grab a drink and go down there to watch the sunset.

My wife and I have been regular motorhome travellers around all parts of Australia for many years.

From the description of the place in several publications, Barn Hill sounded a pleasant place to stay for one night with plenty of powered sites. As the information we had received mentioned a 9k dirt road to the site we telephoned beforehand as we only have a two wheel drive, but only received an answer service saying that the dirt road was "graded every day" so we decided to give it a try. The road was in fact 10k exactly from start to finish which is only a minor discrepancy but there were three cattle gates to open and close during our very bumpy and dusty journey and to tell us on the phone that the road was graded every day was rather a huge joke.

We discovered only after we arrived that they would not accept any sort of credit card payment which is rather inconvenient in this day and age, and after paying for a "powered site" we also discovered that they only provided a 4 amp connection which does not boil a kettle or in fact work our refrigerator so we might just as well have gone to a free camping area (there are plenty of good ones in the area)

The site was not cared for at all and most of the trees were overgrown and untidy looking with dead vegetation everywhere.

There appeared to be a hard core of people who appeared to know each other very well and appeared to be in control of proceedings. I was instructed by one of these people not to use one of the taps near his van even though there were two outlets available and this tap was much nearer me than the one he said I should use which already had four hoses in use attached and was a long way away.

We stayed for one night and certainly will not be visiting this place again

We stayed 2 nights on an unpowered site with fabulous views over the ocean. The beach with the rock formations is amazing, even though the sea is rather treacherous we managed to cool off in between waves. The atmosphere among the other campers where we were was great. The showers & toilets were a classic!! We were sorry to leave & if we had have had the time we would have stayed longer.
