“Don't Miss This”
Reviewed 17 March 2014 via mobile

The Sisters of St John of God have, with the surrounding Aboriginal communities, created one of the best collections of Northern Australian history I've ever seen. This is a remarkable centre, its body of work is both historical and contemporary. The guides are well informed and helpful and there is a small shop with delightful craftwork, books and cards. Don't miss it and be generous with your entry donation.

“Very Thorough”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

Excellent exhibition, on the surface it is a fascinating museum display of the life, works and dedication of these remarkable Nuns. On closer inspection it is more than just a collection of memorabilia, it is a thoroughly scholarly archive and an insight into much of the recent history of the area and the difficulties of the aboriginal communities.

What a hard life the nuns had but devoting their life and energy to improving the lives of aboriginals especially women and girls.
Lovely exhibition and buildings. Don't miss the grotto in the garden.

“Broome's historically different viewpoint”
Reviewed 2 July 2013

Anyone looking for something just a little different from the run of the mill museum shouold visit the Heritage Centre run by the Sisters of SDt John of God in Broome.
When they celebrated their centenary in Broome & the KImberley they elected to create a lasting history of memories, photographs, and memorabilia.
It is possible to search historical information and photos on the data base. View old film footage transfered to DVD and to walk among the many artifacts and exhibits on display.
To really see and understand the hardships these women experienced just over 100 years ago in harsh areas where heat is the norm. They did it wearing the old habit dress of the period and provided much needed healthcare, education & household domestic skills together with so much more.
This is an opportunity travellers should not miss as it provides a very different angle of the history in Broome and surrounds.
