Owner description: The Broome Historical Society speaks through photographs, subject albums and visual displays at the Museum to provide visitors with an understanding of Broome from its rough and ready early days to its emergence as a world centre for cultured pearling. Broome was the first truly multicultural district in Australia; Aboriginal, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans have all contributed to Broome's very diverse cultural history and the Museum, in its exhibits and its albums reflects this richness. Visitors will learn about Pearling and Luggers, Exploitation and Exploration, Adventures, Hardships and Mateship, Asian and Europeans; Riots, Shipwrecks and Missing Diamonds; and Japanese attack on Broome in World War II.

Interesting place to gain an insight into the history of Broome - well worth a visit. Cheap and well run by a group of volunteers this is a must if you are a history buff.

For the $5 entry, this was the best value attraction in Broome. I'm not one to linger in museums normally, but this one managed to capture my attention, and has something for everyone. I particularly liked the films showing on different screens showing both old footage, photos and interviewing people about aspects of life in Broome in the bygone days. Don't miss it!

I have taken many a Broome visitor to this museum. It is packed full of broome history and artefacts covering all things broome from the pearling days, jap invasion, dinosaur footprints etc.
An absolute MUST when visiting Broome. If you want to know anything about Broome then this should be your first stop.

The history of Broome is all there to see. Especially the pearl shell industry and then the cultured pearl industry.
The bombing of Broome in 1942 is well documented.
You definitely should visit. And its air conditioned!!!
