We were lucky enough to be one of 7 couples to go on a 6 night cruise up the buccaneer archipelago. Skipper Jason and Wayne and owner Doug made sure everything went to plan and with the amazing cooking of Guillaume we were all very happy . The most amazing scenery and fishing if wanted ! Nothing was any trouble . Great friends made this a trip to remember ! Th

We were on the first trip on the Ahoy Buccaneer boat following repairs after it ran aground on a reef during April. Our trip was from Wyndham to Broome 7-19 May. Our friend had been scheduled to travel on the trip before ours coming from Broome but it was cancelled only after they had flown to Broome. We tried to confirm with the company that our trip would actually go ahead but could get no reply. The day before our trip, we were informed that we would be collected at 7.30am from our Kununurra hotel for the transfer to Wyndham. At 7.30am, the collection time was revised to 1pm and when we arrived in Wyndham mid- afternoon the boat had not arrived and we had no idea if it would. Eventually the boat arrived at 8pm and we left a day late after refuelling the next day.

During our trip there were multiple problems with the boat that affected our trip. The steering malfunctioned so it was difficult to turn the boat in one direction, an older smaller propeller had been fitted during repairs so that the boat was slow, one of the “tinnies” was not functioning so that passengers had to take it in turn to go ashore, and according to a fellow passenger (an electrical engineer) much of the wiring was loose. Two days into our trip the captain was unable to turn off the motor (this was solved by cutting off the fuel). Then the passengers were called together and informed that the boat would not start and we were asked if anyone had any suggestions! Eventually the crew approached one of the other boats in the region to request help from their engineer who came onboard our boat and solved the issue so that we could continue our trip rather than being evacuated back to Wyndham.

The food on our trip was marginal at best. We did not have a specialised cook – rather a crew member who is normally a deck hand volunteered to do the job of cook for our trip. In his defence he was called upon during the trip to drive the boat and also take passengers out on tinnies so he was unable to focus on the catering. He tried for a few days but pretty much gave up by day 4. Many nights dinner was not served until 9pm. Often there was not enough food for everyone and the choice was unusual. One night it comprised a bowl of rice and a bowl of spaghetti with some chorizo sausage! In response, some passengers tried to contribute to the catering but this was difficult in that they did not know what food was available.

We were relieved to eventually make it back to Broome safely. Even though we did enjoy the company of the other passengers and saw some special sights along the way, we are unable to recommend to others to take the risk of travelling with Ahoy Buccaneers.

Our friend who had her trip cancelled with 24-hours notice (even though the owners knew the boat was in Darwin being repaired) is yet to receive a refund from Ahoy Buccaneers, despite their promises. I would definitely hesitate to book with them, despite recent positive reviews that I read online.

Thank you Shelley and Doug for giving us the opportunity to cruise in our bucket list region of our beautiful state.
We had the BEST time aboard MV Oceanic. The crew were fantastic, extremely helpful, friendly, very knowledgeable and very passionate about this region - we could not have asked for better. Tony, Ria, Rob, Steve thank you thank you - we had the time of ours lives. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Ria cooked up a storm 3 times a day, and providing delicious sunset nibbles on board daily.
We were taken to experience the amazing Talbot Bay Horizontal Falls, Montgomery Reef, Raft Pt, aboriginal art, Cyclone creek, Silver Gull, Steep Island, Stone Warriors at different tides, Crocodile creek, fished, and enjoyable Cgynet Bay pearl tour, swimming at a newly discovered "sandy" cay, stunning sunrises and sunsets and much more.
We thoroughly enjoyed the company of the fellow Buccaneers on this cruising week also.
Again we count ourselves very lucky to have had our experience aboard MV Oceanic.
Huge thanks Karen and Denis June 2018
