“Great location, Nice and Clean !”
Reviewed 13 March 2013

Stayed here with my friends for a few days - Price is average although Perth is quite an expensive city ! Location is great - walking distance to shopping mall / centre and heaps of cafes, restaurants and night life !! I would say this is an average hotel it was good, comfortable but not luxury or 5 stars - I would stay here again as its a good location !

Perth is a ridiculously expensive place to stay when you have kids and some of the places I have stayed in the past are pretty shocking for the prices charged. The Mantra on Hay was a pleasant surprise really for the price we paid, I think it may have been discounted slightly. We stayed in a 2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom apartment and found it to be clean and comfortable. The beds were good and there was plenty of pillows to choose from. The rooms had a double/queen in each so the kids had to share a bed but this didn't worry us or them. A few more basics in the kitchen would have been nice like some type of chopping board and a good knife but overall it was fairly adequate. Also like many Perth hotels you have to pay for parking. The cost of this was moderate compared to other properties but it was self-parking after all. I am more than happy to park my own car but do think the cost could be a bit less as other properties near by only charge slightly more for valet parking. We didn't get a chance to swim in the pool as it is quite small and there was a group of men that seemed to have taken over the pool area and the fitness equipment next to it. I probably wouldn't bother considering a swim at this pool again unless it was empty as the area doesn't really allow for that many people. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again if the price was right.

I generally enjoy staying at this hotel. I have no problem with the facilities and will details those positives below.

But time, and time, and time again they get the bedding wrong. Its simply not good enough for a two bedroom apartment, booked by a travel agent for two business travelers, to have one room with a double bed and one room with two single beds. Business travelers do not want single beds. Its common sense and why I have rated the experience as poor.

That aside the facilities are great.

Sound proofing: Perth CBD isn't exactly busy or know for its late night pubs or clubs. But the sound proofing is excellent overlooking the street.

Bedding: Not excellent but great quality bedding, choice of pillows and so forth.

Food: I can be 100% sure but the dinner menu seems to have shrunk. The choice of appetizers and entrees may have grown but the mains choice isn't much. So that's disappointing. Though the quality of the food is excellent.

Staff: Apart from the bedding issues the staff are excellent. The house keeping staff greet you in the hall, the bar staff are responsive and the front desk staff are efficient.

Fittings: No problems, modern, good quality, and it looks new with good quality.

The pool was out of order, kids disappointed, staff apathetic. Very annoyed. The rooms were very clean, though hardly any of the light switches worked. Breakfast is standard fare and as overpriced as any other Perth restaurant.

Hi NISHPerth

Thank you for your feedback.

My apolgies to you for the way in which my staff responded regarding the closure of the pool. We do try to avoid this as best we can. I can empathise with you for the children being disappointed especially with the Perth heat.

I will liaise with the Front Office Manager regarding the professionalism to be expounded to all guests from her staff members.

Fine for a budget holiday but as a business traveller I found it under whelming. A bit tired and in need of a refurbishment. Bathroom had the mean little hair dryer on the coiled cable that was just a puff of warm air. Bed was comfortable, no tv in bedrooms (business traveller must have), noisy air conditioner. Unit was clean and fine for a basic family holiday stay. Big towels!

Room Tip: Higher up should be quieter

We stayed here in January on our final leg back to the Uk,we found the staff very pleasant and helpful they even booked our trip to the swan river winery.
The one bed apartment we had was everyrthing we needed and was fully stocked for two of us.
The hotel is well placed to jump on the CAT buses and breakfast was very good with a good range of food.
If i return to Perth in the future i would definitely choose the Mantra on Hay.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are better but the aircon from all the rooms are noisy if you sit on the Balcony

Stayed here on a busy night (Australia Day fireworks) and it was clean, spacious and quiet. My only complaint would be that there are no nice breakfast places within walking distance, but that's hardly the hotel's fault and their buffet breakfast was adequate.
