“Very convenient and comfortable!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

I had mixed feelings when I first booked this hotel because of the photos I've seen online and since I was traveling with my parents, I was hoping it would be really comfortable and convenient for them. The hotel looks old and somewhat, 'dodgy'.

Well, when I first walked into the apartment, my perceptions changed. It was completely the opposite of what I had in mind. The photos on the internet doesn't do justice to this place. It does not look as run down as the photos you find on the internet (which I would really like to highlight just so people don't get the wrong impression like how I did until I arrived). Yes, it may not look modern but it is REALLY comfortable and had everything we needed - washing machine, dryer, a working kitchen etc... you get my point.

And being so convenient (it's just right opposite harbourtown) can be really dangerous. I shopped like crazy and kept going back because things are really cheap in harbourtown (quality might be another thing though). Food is easily available around harbourtown or you could order take aways (there are a few racks of guides, maps, tourists brochures, take away menus around the reception). The free CAT buses that take you around the city comes pretty frequently and you can catch it to get to Coles/Woolsworth which is two stops away if you need to shop for groceries/toiletries. You can also walk to King's Park if you don't mind a 15 minutes walk.

The receptionists were also very friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up!

Lastly, here's a tip. If you arrive early (I arrived at the hotel before 8am), you can always drop your luggage at the "luggage room" (ask the receptionist about it) and rest at their guest lounge (behind the reception area) till around 9.30am when all the shops nearby are opened then go out for some sight seeing/shopping till check-in time. :)

Stay overnight. The room was old but clean with the added advantage of having a bedroom a separate kitchen/dinning room and separate bathroom area, but only a double bed. The only thing wrong is there isn't a restaurant attached but there is a Chinese restaurant just up the road which is BYO and there is a bottle shop near it. The Free bus service stops just outside the hotel which is very convenient.

2 Bedroom. Mattress's need replacing found very hard & single beds lopsided. Microwave needs removing from top of fridge/freezer, everytime we wanted to use it we had to open the freezer door which opened left to right so we could open the M/wave door which opened right to left. ( the freezer door had a lip above it which was why couldn't open M/wave ) Reading lights in both rooms very poor lighting & globes were covered in plenty of fluffy dust had to clean off, removed light shade to get a bit more light. Dishwashing liquid appears to be watered down. Some of the plates need replacing , when we got cups & plates out of cupboard plates looked dirty & cracks in cereal bowl & cups were upside down & sitting in water still wet inside, Had to wash & wipe up water in the cupboard. Apartment was roomy enough & the water in shower was lovely & hot. Unit as a whole could do with a bit of refurbishment, (paint, carpets, tiles & beds)

Room Tip: Second bedroom is too small for 2 single beds & didn't have any hanging space. But did have...

We had a great stay here with our 3 kids. Staff were able to check us in early as I emailed the hotel with our flight times the day before, which was wonderful, so we could have a rest and get settled straight away. Staff in general were very friendly and patient while my children bought treats from the hotel shop. Whilst not new, the apartments were perfectly fine for our needs, and there was enough space for all of us compared to hotels in the CBD. It was clean and had everything we needed. We were in a 2 bedroom apartment with its own washing machine and dryer, a brilliant feature since we had kids with all their dirty clothes.
TV Reception tripped in and out and the internet worked, but was quite slow, but otherwise we had a great stay here.

2 bedroom twin apartment (2 rooms x 2 single beds).

Old and dated and VERY stuffy with no a/c in the rooms and unable to unlock the window in one of the rooms. Fans didn't help much and the fan was either at lift off speed or barely rotating.

Bathroom was filthy - scum marks in the shower, hairs on the wall tiles and what looked like snot crusted on the upper tiles. The door frames are old and rusted and water damage at the base of the door. The bathroom doubles as a sauna with no exhaust fan to use when showering. Unless the toilet cistern button is held down for the entire flush, the toilet doesn't flush properly. The best way to describe the water pressure in both the shower and the bathroom basin was a dribble and trying to get a constant water temperature was nearly impossible. Scalding hot or freezing cold.

The cutlery and crockery in the kitchen needed rinsing off before we could use it - looked like it had just been run under water and not washed properly after use by previous room occupants.

By far the biggest problem and disrupted our whole stay was the noise from other rooms (particularly the room above us) We were on the first floor and it sounded like the people above us were coming through the roof. Constant banging, crashing, yelling and being able to hear their conversation - at all hours of the day and night. We were woken up throughout the night by the noise, it was really annoying.

Not all of the TV channels worked and we couldn't work out how to use the free TV movie channels (no instructions provided)

Overall, would never stay here again, despite the location to Harbour town and being easily accessed by public transport.

Not worth the money we paid for the room, very disappointed

Room Tip: don't stay here. If you have too choose the highest possible floor level so at least you won'...

Our family have just spent one night at the city stay apartments. We went to see the pink concert and the apartments were only 800m away from the venue, which was fantastic as we didn't have to worry about parking our car. Also it is right across the road was harbour town which was good for shopping!
We had a 2 bedroom apartment. The room with the 2 single beds was small but adequate for the kids. As it is an old hotel, the rooms are a little dated but they are clean and the linen is nice.
We did have some noisy people across the hall and the rooms didn't seem to be very sound proof.
But for the price you pay and how they cater for families, I think it was great. Better than paying double the price for 2 hotel rooms down the road. And the location was great, staff were lovely and we had undercover parking!
We would stay there again.

Booked the hotel through Agoda.com with AUD180/night (4person=double+twin room). Overall, the room is over our expectations. Behind our room is a playground plus back entrance of the hotel. It has a living room (seating+tv+dining table) with air-conditioner/heater. Since we were on a budget travel, we decided to cook and the room is totally suits us. The kitchenette is complete with microwave, refrigerator, hot plates, and complete utensils! We also use the washing machine and the dryer almost everyday (no detergent provided). It has separate shower. But no water hose at the toilet, so we needed to use toilet paper.

Iron and 4 big towels are also provided. Though no housekeeping (we never asked one), you can put the dustbin outside the room every morning and they will take care of it. Internet? Yes, they give free WiFi. The speed is reasonable. I think there is no PC room. They don't seem kind enough when my dad needed to use PC and the receptionist didn't bother to help. We don't interact much with the staff during our stay. They also have convenience store; chips, breads, pasta sauces. You can choose rooms at the ground level near the playground if you love to walk around the hotel. But always bring your room card to access the building. Don't want you to get stuck outside.

Location wise - quite good. There are Yellow cat bus stop and Harbour Town just across the hotel. So we just take the bus if we need to go to the central area like Myer, Woolworths (we get our food supply here) and also Perth Station. The hotel is also 10 minutes walk to City West Station (Fremantle Line). So you don't need to go to Perth Station if you want to go to Fremantle. If you need to rent a car, there is Europcar just one street ahead. The hotel also provides parking lot. And there is a gas station nearby (at the T-junction of the street).

Tips: It is a nice apartment hotel if you intend to cook as well as have a private stay with family. Though maximum is 4 person per room, i think you can squeeze another 2 person if you don't mind to sleep on the couch and floor.

Room Tip: Choose rooms facing playground if you want home-like view. Choose rooms facing Harbour Town if you l...
