“worst hotel i have ever stayed in ..........................”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2009

Firstly, this was supposed to be a corporate room - can only say, would hate to see a standard room. Very, very basic - no extras, not even a tv guide which are in most standard rooms i have stayed in. Air conditioning centrally adjusted so no room adjustment possible and it was spewing out hot air. I rang reception and was told it was still on "winter", even though the temp was 28 degrees!
Meals were sub-std and they only had Pepsi in the bar which made the rum taste terrible. Even one of the housemaids told me that they had not "looked after me" as I was immobile and unless I got taken out, had to rely on the local Dominios for lunch. Only two options in the Compendium, Dominios and a Kebab place which didnt open until 5pm. As I am on oxygen, was not able to get anything for myself and I was told that they should have arranged for food from the Goodearth across the road. On arrival, there was no help with luggage, just self help trolleys so if for the elderly or physically challenged arriving in a taxi, you would be sunk. Fortunately, I had friends to help me.

My husband and I live in country WA but when we come to the CBD we often go to this hotel having tried quite a few.

It's a 15m walk from the CBD or you can hop on a free bus. There's a decent Irish pub nearby and a really nice curry house called Balti. Parking is $10 but we have always got a space. Broadband is available. Rooms are big, old but clean. Beds are firm enough. Water pressure is really good in the showers. Brekkie is decent. Overall we never feel like we're being ripped off, usually finding a room for $110, and the fact the rooms are old and have tired decor don't bother us.

This hotel was a dissapointment from the get go. Odd smell in foyer, room was smelly and dirty. Dust everywhere. The hotel restaurant was below standard, the buffet breakfast sausages were hard as rock. Tried to eat dinner and was turned away becasue they were too busy. meanwhile there is a chinese restaurant at the bottom of Hay street that is the best I have ever had. Looking for food in perth go there! But DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! There are many others that are far superior and have friendlier staff. This hotel is NOT somewhere you want to arrive at after a long flight. Yuck.

bed hard, noisy hallways, we had people in room at end of hall partying, told the reception 3 times to tell them to be quiet--2am......in the end i went down myself and asked for them to be quiet....

Better value for money at other hotels in perth

I've stayed at this hotel many times for business trips to Perth. The hotel is only 3.5 stars, so do not expect it to be anything like a 4 or 5 star hotel. I've never had any problems with the staff here and have been friendly and helpful while i've been here.

Each time I have stayed here, the rooms have been quite different. Some rooms have been quite small, whereas some rooms are very large. I have always paid for the same room type so it can vary in what you get here. The rooms feel quite old and do need some renovation, but if you are just there to sleep it is no problem.

One thing that did get me in each room is the port for the internet. They seem to be at the most inconvenient places in the room for some reason. Mostly beneath the TV. There is no wireless here. Getting a cable from the Front Desk can be a challenge as it seems they run out all the time and you'll need to reserve one. I always bring my own cable, at least about 5 metres long here to work from the desks.

The restaurant is very basic here. For breakfast, the tip is to eat a bit earlier before 8:30, as you'll be getting the leftovers. The price is not to expensive when trying to eat at like a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Location wise, it is at one end fo Perth city, about a 15 minute walk to the main City, or you can catch the Free CAT bus from the street behind to take you into the city.

Considering Internet is free and Parking at only $10 a day, it doesn't add to much to what you are paying for the room already. Compared this to other hotels in the same area it is good value.

If you have high expectations. If you are not to fussy and live with the basics at an affordable price near the CBD then this is one to consider.

Me, father, liked the Ambassador. It was a good palce to crash whilst we organised ourselves in WA. Central, easy to get around Perth, OK rooms, free internet (amazingly only next repeated 5 months later in Australasia) and a feeling of just being a hotel where you go out and find life (of course this is slightly ironic in Perth after 6 pm). Used Tripadvisor (bless 'em) to find out that building work near the hotel opposite made it a place that jet-lag would become hellish.

The missus and nipper found it boring, bland, old, tired and lacking any inspiration, both couldn't wait to leave. Hey ho.

Oh, and I phoned them to enquire about a pull out bed for our son and got a double bedroom for 2/3 of the internet 'best' price. Give 'em a ring if you want top stay.
