“Decent hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2011

Decent hotel in a good location. Nothing fancy, just a simple clean bed and restaurant getup. The restaurant looks good but did not get a chance to eat there. The night staff were nice and friendly and helped us sort out parking for the night.

First of all, I choose this hotel because of many reviews about how good the smorgasboard breakfast are. Well, the breakfast is fine, so many selection and all of them tasted good. But coming from Indonesia, where many hotels here (especially chain hotels) serve free buffet breakfast, Miss Maud is serving a pretty much standard breakfast, although I have to admit that the food quality is above average. I did enjoy the breakfast, the service is efficient, the crews were working really hard to make the experience as pleasant as possible, and they seemed to know perfectly well what they are doing.
As for the room, it is okay, very clean, and although I get a room without a view, it still felt like a luxury for me. A friendly warning, though, if you brought heavy luggage, this small hotel has only one tiny (maximum capacity: 1 person with 1 large luggage) and old lift with double doors that requires you to master a certain skill of keeping it open so you can hoist your large and heavy luggage into safety. And to reach my room, I still had another two staircases as a hurdle. I just considered it as an additional exercise....
Location-wise: very recommended as it located in the heart of the city center. It was also one of my reason when choosing this hotel for my last night in Perth.
My advice to the lady at the front office, smile a little smile never kill anyone :)

It is very difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel in Perth. So, I ended up at Miss Maud's. Did I regret this choice? Not really but it wasn't really worth the $175 that I paid for a rather small room. The room was ok but small and very 1970s. It was next to the laundry room where there were clear instructions not to use after 6pm yet, the washing machine was still going at 10pm (not great for people travelling). Be warned if you have a heavy bag there are stairs to get to the lift and the lift is quite unreliable (if the door is left open at one level it won't move).

However, there were some clear pluses. It was clean and central. The breakfast is great (although at $25 for walk in customers it may explain the high room rates and should maybe be optional) and it has character which is hard to find these days.

Would I stay again. Yes, but only if I could get a better deal...

I was very pleased with the service I received at Miss Maud's it was friendly and efficient. I had the dinner, bed and breakfast deal which was great value.
My room was on the small side but was very clean and fresh looking.
The location is the best thing-just a short walk to Murray St Mall, the train station with CAT bus stops around the corner.
I do not have anything negative really to say. The place has some old world charm and I actually liked the old-fashioned elevator :)

Felt dated but clean and good value as the rest of Perth's hotels were ridiculously high. Buffet breakfast was a highlight.

We loved this place! Fantastic location in the heart of Perth CBD, very well kept and clean, with the bakery and restaurant next door - with a smorgasbord to die for! The breakfast was fantastic and included in the rate which was great value for money, especially since it's buffet style and has just about everything you could every want for brekkie! We had dinner here also and that was fantastic. A great selection and great value if you're out by 7pm - which we were, after having driven up to Exmouth and back! My only complaint would be the young receptionist who wasn't the most helpful - and who could do with smiling at guests! Perhaps she needs more training! Her boss was very helpful once she went to get her help. I'd highly recommend.

This was a quaintly decorated hotel -- Lots of character. The breakfast (aka brekkie) can't be beat. The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom were immaculate. The wifi worked quickly. The location was very centrally located. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I loved Perth and would definitely stay here again.
