“Excellent Smorgasbord dinner”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

This hotel is located near to CBD and within walking distance to the malls. You are also able to take the free CAT buses to popular tourist attractions like Kings Park and Harbour Town. The rooms are small but adequate. There is a small lift in the hotel for those who have walking problems or who does not want to take the stairs carrying heavy luggages. We took the room package which included a Smorgasbord Dinner and breakfast. Simply love the buffet dinner spread and since it was around Christmas, we had party poppers too! I wouldn't mind coming back again.

This is much less expensive than other hotels in Perth and the rooms reflect this, being a fraction of the size of the more modern hotels. But if you are out most of the day this doesn't matter much. The hotel is unpretentious, friendly, spotlessly clean, well situated. My tiny shower room was well designed and had everything I could possibly need. The stairs and antiquated lift could be a problem for some people. Free fast wifi.

I seem to be the odd one out in saying I wasn't impressed by the breakfast buffet (why call it a smorgasbord?). Apart from a good selection of fresh fruits I thought it pretty ordinary. Cereals were in packets, so-called Bircher muesli was horrible, far too sweet. Pastries weren't as good as those on offer in the neighbouring hotel cafe. The coffee was so stewed I asked for an espresso (which I had to pay extra for) but that too was bitter.

I chose a la carte in the evening and regretted it. The lasagne was very tired, the pasta chewy. And the house red wine was awful. People seemed to be enjoying the buffet.

Very usefully if you have a late departure, day rates are available to keep your room until the evening. I much appreciated this.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs around the hotel so ask for one near the lift if you have heavy cases.

We stayed a total of 6 nights at Miss Mauds at the start & end of our holiday in WA. It is ideally situated within walking distance to the mall.Checking in early wasn't a problem for Cristie & the staff who helped us store our luggage in the secure baggage room until our room was ready. Nothing was a problem. Miss Mauds is an old timer that has been tastefully restored. Hence the rooms vary in size but are adequate & everything is spotless. The smorgasboard breakfast is enormous with good wholesome food to start the day. The freshly baked pastries are to die for - maybe not considered "wholesome food" by some. We had a Friday evening smorgasboard meal & were glad we had booked - it is very popular with the locals & that speaks for itself! Thoroughly recommended.

Perth is notoriously expensive so Miss Maud's definitely wins on price.

The whole Swedish motif is a bit odd, but charming.

Rooms are basic

Free Wi-Fi is fast

Breakfast feast (included) is the best part!

This beautiful older style boutique hotel is right there on the edge of the CBD - walking distance to everything. The rooms are smaller than modern upmarket hotels but the addition of floor to ceiling mirrors along one wall (in our room, anyway) made it perfectly adequate. A nice modern ensuite completed the set up. Yes, the rickety stairs are a bit of a problem with heavy cases but there is (a rickety!) old lift if required! Front of house staff were very accommodating with our very early arrival and throughout our brief stay. The included buffet breakfast was sensational and consisted of everything you could desire - and more! We had experienced the smorgasbord dinner on an earlier visit to Perth and certainly looked forward to this return visit, and we weren't disapointed. This has to be the best place to eat in Perth - and for what you are offered, very reasonable. The whole experience was first class and recommended without hesitation.

This is by far one of the lowest priced hotels with exceptional value and customer care. The design is by far one of the most interesting with a touch of good old Australia and a very warm welcome. The hotel is very clean and very well maintained with the rooms being spotless and staff by far the most friendliest I have have ever met. We had a small problem in our room and we were immediately transferred to a new room without any questions asked.

We stayed here at the recommendation of a relative after a tiring return from an overseas trip. Friendly service at reception but managing the stairs with heavy suit cases to get to our room was almost too much. Rooms very clean and well maintained. As per usual these days pillows too thick! We ordered a light meal in the restaurant the evening we arrived which was very disappointing. The smorgasbord breakfast was excellent, in particular the range and quality of the pastries and breads which are baked in their own bakery. We did not eat another evening meal there but observed many people eating the smorgasbord that evening so it is obviously very popular.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a level with a lift if you have heavy suitcases.
