Lovely clean updated room, beautiful breakfast smorgasbord. But the NOISE!!!!!!! Saturday night for Valentines day - didn't get any sleep - for all the wrong reasons. A night club directly over the road with idiots making the standard noises, and hoons revving their cars. Then, something that sounded like a chainsaw a 6am. Would stay gain, but definitely not 1st floor over Murray St side!!!!!! Oh - and shower lurches from scaldingly hot to freezing cold - wasting waster trying for 10 minutes to get a useable medium

When you think of Perth, you don't think of Sweden!

I highly recommend Miss Maud Hotel for the following reasons:

1. Central city location - a few minutes walk to the CBD and key shopping areas. Easy to get to. Woolworth, Myers and DJs are 750 m away.
2. Well trained, genuinely happy, friendly and helpful staff - maybe its Perth - all the staff, from the hotel to the restaurant, are thoughtful and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble and they do the little things that made it a memorable stay.
3. Hotel is uniquely Swedish! It has its own bakery and restaurant where the breakfast is amazing. Well worth the visit alone. We met plenty of regulars and guests who had stayed there before and continue to return.
4. Clean and well maintained. On site laundry facilities. Room is good and recently updated.
5. Good value when you consider 1-4. Shop around however, as we found the best rate through a Perth travel operator.

The key limitation is there is no hotel parking - there a several parking stations near by or its on-street parking (mostly free after 6pm and before 7.30am). More of an inconvenience moving the car around and feeding the parking meter. Not really an issue if you plan to do day trips and will not need to park the car during the day time.

Overall, I had a really good stay and would happily go back. It exceeded my expectations of a 3 star hotel.

Stayed for one night and took advantage of the Treat for Two deal which gave us a queen size superior room with smorgasbord dinner and breakfast included. We booked in May so had to contact the hotel direct to get this rate as it wasn't available so far in advance on the website. Three other couples (friends) also booked and all except one were happy with their rooms. One couple were even upgraded to a huge corner suite whereas another couple who also booked months ahead were given a very small room in the middle of the hotel with a very tiny window. My husband and I had requested a room with a balcony at an extra charge of $5 which we received. My only complaint was that the hotel is opposite a little laneway where a late night bar/nightclub is located and the noise from people spilling out onto the roadway went on until 6 am so we got very little sleep. This was a Saturday night so it may not be a problem on other nights. Our friends didn't hear the noise as they were located on different sides of the hotel.
The smorgasbord dinner and breakfast were great. The hotel is located in the city centre within short walking distance of the main shopping malls.

Overall, this was a great stay and we would definitely recommend to someone...however below are the points I would make.

Location was fantastic. Literally a 1 minute walk from the main mall area, a 5 min walk from the Barrack St jetty with Swan Bell Tower and in the vicinity of great restaurants.

Breakfast was REALLY good. Heard mixed reviews about this on here, the apparently locally-famous smorgasbord breakfast... but yes, we really enjoyed it. Teh fruit was yummy, good yoghurt, really nice bread, freshly made croissants and pancakes, a different selection of hot foods every day (eggs, bacon, little sausages, potato cakes etc). We really enjoyed it...

The attached bakery was nice too - good spinach and ricotta rolls:) a minor point, but one to mention!

Immaculately clean - I am a pain in the butt with this and if I find accidentally-uncleaned areas of a room I freak out about the cleanliness of the whole place. But this was spotless... lovely friendly cleaning staff and they just did a fantastic job. Towels and sheets were immaculate and fresh, bathroom was shiny and spotless...

Intenret - we paid I think $6 (might have been $5?) for 1 hour's internet access through their wireless system which was CRAP no matter where we sat in the hotel. Not a huge point for us personally but I would imagine it could be a problem for some people. There is a decenetly priced internet cafe 3 doors down the road, but for $180 a night, I would personally imagine the hotel would provide free broadband internet or at least reasonably priced internet that worked!

The hotel's furnishings were cute - very 70s feeling but in a nice way, if that makes sense. Like just traditional furnishings they obviously havent changed (the wallpaper, the chairs throughout the lobby area etc) but it felt homely and cosy and not at all rundown.

We sort of found ourselves wondering what the $180 a night for a standard room was for, it that makes sense it was a very cute hotel and nothing bad to mention at all really, but for $180, we were sort of feeling like something was missing... esp considering there were loads of deals on Wotif.com for 4 and 5 star hotels in the CBD for about that price per night.

Staff were okay. They weren't rude per se, but just not helpful... perhaps I was picturing an adorable old Swedish lady ready to help us out, but they were just very "Yep, here's your key and there's the elevator" and then just sat back down. They weren't too bad though - not a con, but not a pro either.

So I would definitely recommend it, but would also personally encourage family members/friends to look on Wotif.com before paying the full rate of $180 a night. In all, a good hotel with perfect Perth location but not a FANTASTIC oh-my-god wonderful hotel, if that makes sense:)

Stayed for four days. the room was small but very clean and overall nice. The location is excellent but gets a bit busy on the weekends. Liked everything exepct one receptionist who treats guests as they disturbed here. Breakfast is very good, Would definitely stay here again.

what an enjoyable experience we had staying at Miss Mauds, I can't believe that anyone didn't enjoy their stay there, if so, your hard to please. The staff were first class, and my wife and i couldn't speak highly enough about the food, Yes it's an older hotel, but spotless and with a lot of character, which is what attracted us.we have stayed at a lot of hotels over the years, but this leaves most behind. Granted we stayed in room 205 which has a balcony and is quite spacious, with a good sized bathroom with bath, also the double glazed windows and doors made a big difference. The other thing that attracted us was there are laundry facilities there which were a bonus. So summing up, a wonderful experience was had for the four nights spent there,
