We spent 2 nights in this hotel. We wanted some relatively cheap accommodation within easy walking distance of most places in the Perth CBD.

The location was excellent. It was very close to the Hay Street Mall, Barrack Street Jetty (for Swan River cruises, Swan Bells etc.), Perth Mint, St Mary's Cathedral and many restaurants and shops. There was even an IGA store very close to buy a few groceries or fresh fruit etc. One afternoon we walked from there through the mall and up past Parliament House to Kings Park, though it was a bit of a hike!

The $13 breakfast buffet was the best value we could find anywhere. It didn't have an enormous range of choices, but did have a selection of basic hot food, cereals, juice, toast, coffee etc so for the money, was very good value.

The room itself was very basic. The furniture and fittings throughout the hotel however were old, quite worn and had seen better days. Adequate would be the best way to describe the accommodation. It was probably very good about 30 years ago! Cleanliness was average, and most of the furniture and fittings were overdue for replacement. The bed was only a double and a bit saggy (one of the "roll-towards-the-middle" variety!) but it was reasonably quiet outside despite its central CBD location, so we managed to get some to sleep. A stay there of a few days were OK, but I think I'd be looking for somewhere else for anything longer.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the free internet was good (though slow).

Would we stay there again? Probably yes (for a couple of days!). Perth is a very expensive place to stay, and this hotel provided basic accommodation, in a good location at a fairly reasonable price.

We spent 6 great nights in this hotel. It's very clean, comfortable and convenient for our daily travel. Very close to the train station and ferry jetty. Along the way, there are many shopping complexes and food outlets. Subway and Mc Donald are only a few doors away. Buy your groceries or whatever you need at IGA store which is next to the hotel. At the corner, there are 2 bakery shops. Love the pies from the City Bakery. A few Asian food outlets nearby too. The hotel staff and service were good and helpful. Our room was good enough for the rate paid. We were out the whole day so weren't expecting any view or extra facilities. House keeping and WiFi could be improved. Overall, it was a good experience for us and we will definitely come back.

I had a room with two twin beds. I'm small myself (1 meter 69 / 70 kilos), but even for me the bed was very small. I could not roll over without falling out. When I moved the two beds together, I discovered a damaged carpet and water stains. Over-all the room needed a repainting and general maintenance, as does the entire hotel.

I would not advise the breakfast. For the price you have very little choice; just go out the hotel to eat in one of the many restaurants for the same price and with much more variety.

The most frustrating thing for me was the Internet connection. They blamed it on the construction across the street, but it didn't work very well on the weekend and at night either.

Finally the rooms have little or no sound-proofing. I used ear plugs, but the two nights I spent here were not restful.

The staff at the reception were fine, reactive and helpful. The problem with this hotel is not the staff but the infrastructure. A lot of work needs to be done.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the street side (Hay Street). The rooms are not sound proofed and you will hear noise...

Positives: Our room was large and clean. Bed was comfortable. Water was hot. Central position Negatives: old, tired interior, a bit "dingy", outlook a brick wall through a small high window. We got what we paid for. Maybe next time in Perth we will pay a bit more for something a little more appealing.

This hotel is the dullest, drabbest hotel I have ever stayed in. The front entrance is uninviting and reception very dated, the public toilets on the ground floor were unpleasant. Reception staff were helpful in storing our luggage until our room was 'ready'!! We took the tiny lift to the dimly lit 2nd floor. Our room thankfully was opposite the lift and not further along the dark corridors to the left and right. The door to our room had the appearance of a 1950's cheap motel and upon entering the room the inside matched the door. The only saving grace was that the bed linen was clean, the bathroom whilst equally as drab as the rest of the hotel was also clean and the hotel's location was actually very good.

We had booked and paid in advance for the hotel 2 months before our trip, it was selected for location, availability and price and whilst we knew this was not a top hotel, we expected something better than we experienced. I asked the reception staff if they were planning to upgrade the rooms after the outside work was finished; they said that they had been renovated within the last 2 years!!!!!. I also asked why the lighting was so poor throughout, to be told that they were not allowed to change the hotel due to its heritage status.

We decided to stay with our paid for room on the basis that we would only be sleeping 7 hours per day in it. We planned to spend as much time out of the room exploring the wonderful city of Perth. There are other hotels in Hay St. and they must be better than this, stay away from this one.

We booked this hotel for its proximity to the river, the station and the shops. We were not disappointed, the rooms were exceptionally clean although a little dated and the breakfast good value. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed twice in this hotel, the first time we had a room on the ground floor which, whilst adequate, was a little small, on the second occasion we were on the top floor in a room with two double beds and a larger bathroom. Although this room faced onto Hay Street the building works across the street did not affect us.

We returned to this hotel due to its excellent location, adjacent to Perth's shopping district.
Room are spacious but furniture need to be refurbished.Bed matrasses tend to bee too soft.
All receptionists are friendly and very helpful. Since we needed an iron and ironing board, this was delivered pronto after our request to the reception!
