We booked online through wotif mystery deal - I am now wary of these and double check the features offered - can be a little misleading in regards to quality of the hotels, especially in Perth where there are so many Apartment Hotels.
We checked into the hotel - a bit of drama as we don't take our credit card out with us and didn't have $100 cash for the bond - ATM across the road came in handy. However this was not mentioned during the booking process and was quite unexpected - perhaps once we are more regular travellers we will expect this.
We were then "shown" to our room, which was out of the building, around the corner and through a side door - very strange and not particularly convenient. The man then left us at the side door and said "up those stairs to the second floor and about half way down" leaving us with our bags and trying to work out where our room was.
Room was beautiful - bed was MASSIVE windows overlooked the "river" - actually an artificial lake that is water taken from the river. Bathroom and kitchen quite clean - tea and coffee making facilities are complimentary.
We went out to the pool for a swim - which was strange as we returned via the street to the side door in towels and swim wear, soaking wet. Pool was a gorgeous infinity pool - just big enough for 2 people doing laps but nice. Unfortunately it is not heated (it was a chilly time of November - warm enough for swimming but not expecting such a cold pool).
We went for a romantic getaway for our first anniversary - I would recommend this hotel for families (I understand there are bigger rooms with 2+ bedrooms) or long stay as the room is actually an apartment.
Room service is actually from the cafe downstairs and has limited hours. Prices are generally $2 more than cafe prices. Rooms are cleaned/sheets changed only every 3 days which is why I also think this is better for long term stay - as you sometimes want the luxury of rooms being made up for you and fresh towels being ready when staying for the weekend. Also there is a fairly large bar fridge and microwave in the room - allows for storage of your own food and limited cooking.
Contrary to other reviews I did not find the hotel noisy at all - however we may have been on the "quiet" side. Also the "carpark" costs $20 per night and was full when we were there - yet the hotel wasn't particularly busy - we ended up parking on a side street in the residential area, fairly close to the hotel. Also the internet is ridiculously expensive something like $30 per day to utilise the wireless network - which I suppose is okay if your work/tax is paying for it but unreasonable for the average traveller.
There is the Yellow CAT bus just nearby which will take you into Perth - it is close enough to walk home from Northbridge if you want.
