Get a little chill off and drop by Herisson Island. There is no entrance fee for it, the most amazing thing that can happen to a solo traveller. :P Spot a kangaroo if you are lucky enough. :)

The island is nice for a weekend getaway. Visited this place on a Sunday Morning. Saw 5 kangaroos in the island. No fees to enter the island. The parking is free on the weekend too. It's located only 10 minutes from CBD.

a few dead kangas on the paths, take some drink as there are no facilities here. you can take a picnic rug there is a patch of lawn and some shade, but if you are unsure as to if you should go or not, the don't bother

Went to Perth Zoo during the day and was slightly disappointed to not see 'roos roaming freely around the zoo. Had a tip off that there are around 5 joeys living in Heirisson Island so jumped in a cab ($14 from the zoo) and headed over. Sure enough there they were around 300 yards into the gated area!

Essentially Heirisson Island is a marsh land type area so there will invariably there are some flies kicking around. If you can deal that it's well worth the taxi ride if you are keen to see 'roos in a relatively wild environment.

*TOP TIP- Give Perth Zoo a wide berth and save some cash.

Was told that Heirisson Island had 'wild' kangaroos so dutifully went along early one morning. Disappointed by the number of Roos but did get quite close to them and they seemed very used to humans so not quite as wild as had been suggested. But, hey, there are no other countries where you can see any Roos in the wild, so make the most of these fellas.
