I think every visitor to WA needs to experience an outdoor cinema at least once. Pack yourself a picnic, and don't forget pillows or something to prop your head up (or the film will be strenuous to watch)...you can also rent bean bag chairs, and enjoy! Few places on earth have such great weather to be able to host something like this. It is not to be missed. Whatever you do, do not trust the website when it gives bus/walking directions. I would highly recommend you avoid this at all costs as the walk is long and dark and you may have to wait more than an hour for the bus to pick you up. Find a way to drive or take a cab.

Really enjoyed seeing 12 years a slave here. Was nice and loud and good screen. Remember to take some food and drink, get there early to eat before film starts. We went in march, so did get a bit chilly when got dark, so take a jumper or blanket, we hired the bean bags which are very comfy. It's gets quite busy aim to be there about 19.00 ish to get good place, but some ppl get there earlier. On way out take scenic route and see perth city at nite, quite breath taking at night. Also go back and enjoy kings park during the day.

Bring a mat and something to sit on. Bring some food and drinks. Bring some insect spray. Bring a jumper in case it gets a bit chilly later on.

Do all that and you’ll have a great time. Love it. Cinema in the park under the stars. Its my favourite outdoor cinema in Perth.

The entire experience was a disaster. Firstly, the movie did not start on time, and was almost 20 minutes late. I think due consideration needs to be shown to the fact that with the number of people attending these screenings, getting out of King's Park is not an easy affair, which makes for a very late night when you have work the next day.

We were also unfortunate enough to have had 2 people set up in front of us just before the film began. They had low chairs, which were not quite low enough for anyone behind them to see over. The area was packed and we were sandwiched in, so there was no way of us repositioning ourselves. We politely let them know, but they were not willing to compromise. A group of people behind us (who also couldn't see) told an employee, who over-ruled and allowed them to stay there, as they just wanted to keep the peace. The cinema has been set up on a completely flat section of the park (even though a sloped area would be much more suitable). Taking this into account, there clearly needs to be separate areas for people with beanbags, and those with chairs.

The experience didn't improve once the film actually began. The sound quality was worse than that of a pirate DVD. There was constant white noise over the film, and the sound was so low that we were unable to hear much of what was being said. And we'd arrived early so we weren't even at the back of the area.

The final straw came when the vision of the film cut out. We were sat listening but not watching the film for some time before somebody sorted it out. When they did manage to get the film going again, they rewound it waaaay too far and didn't even bother getting it to the correct point. At that point my group and I all agreed that we no longer wanted to stay and watch the rest of the film, and we gathered our belongings.

We were not the only ones to leave at this point. As we walked to the box office, there were already people in front of us requesting a refund because they could not hear the film. Turns out it is actually IMPOSSIBLE to get a refund out of these cinemas. Their T&Cs are so tight that there is NO chance.

Do yourself a favour and get to the Burswood outdoor cinema instead. It's run for charity, and run a hell of a lot better than this one.

Kings park is such a beautiful location & the moonlight cinema is great. Recommend getting a bean bag if you don't have your own, so comfy to watch the film from. Liked that we could take our own snacks & drinks. Great program of films, will be back again!
