“3 stars for a 3 1/2 star accomodation”
Reviewed 23 March 2011

It's all about perspective isn't it? If you consider that this is a 3 1/2 star holiday apartment, and set your expectations accordingly, you would then be able to enjoy this hotel for what it is. For a 3 1/2 star place, my expectation is for it to be at least clean, comfortable and suitably furnished. I have stayed in this hotel 4 times over the last 12 years. This time I was there after a 5 years break. But it still ticks the boxes for me.

Admittedly, the furniture might have been a little old, at least they still looked clean and pleasing. The bedrooms were also comfortable and welcoming. The kitchenette, washing machine and dryer are additional comforts that came with the apartment. The management may well need to overhaul the place shortly, but for the time being I think it is still passable. I have most definitely stayed in worse 3 1/2 apartments in Perth.

One additional thing: this place has a small indoor swimming pool and free parking. Definitely a plus point for a 3 1/2 star establishment in my books (can't say the same for some 5 stars accomodation)

I'm giving this 3 stars for being at least a decent 3 1/2 stars accommodation

The apartment is well laid out, but the walls and floors are very thin. On two nights out of three, I was wakened repeatedly between 2am and 5 am by noise in the apartment above.

The double beds are no such thing, They are merely two singles pushed together, which makes sleeping very difficult. The desk staff insisted that all the rooms were the same (or perhaps they just did not want the trouble of changing rooms). The linen was too small for the bed.

Cleanliness is not the Alderney's strong point. The toilet smelled strongly of stale urine and our "non-smoking" apartment smelled strongly of cigarettes. Some of the dinner plates, etc, were clearly in need of a wash. Rooms are unserviced between check-in and check-out.

The rooms are "zero maintenance" and the rooms have a decidedly run-down feel to them, whether it be the soap dispenser that rests on the floor of the shower, the toilet that won't flush properly, the scorched benchtop, or the doors with the off-colour edge margin that did not get painted because the doors were painted while they were closed.

Domestic staff are all either asian or african, so, presumably, bare minimum wages are being paid.

Parking is included in the tariff, but the supply of bays is limited. A particularly unpleasant feature of the parking is the use of wheel clamps on those who park in the wrong place. This practice is illegal in other states, but does reflect the attitude of management towards the guests. The release fee is $140.

If you're looking for luxury or or tidy to perfection - the Alderney is not for you. If you're looking for affordably priced apartment and can live with a few scratches and dents - then you should keep the Alderney in consideration.

Despite the mixed reviews, we approached the Alderney with an open mind. We stayed in a refurbished 2 bedroom apartment - plenty of room for the three of us. We had no issues with check-in, however we did arrive during the front-desk opening hours.

The apartments though are cheap for a reason. Here are some of the limitations and issues we encountered (1) no dishwasher. Not a major issue but it would have been nice, (2) only analogoue free-to-air TV stations. This is a bit sub-standard, as digital set-top-boxes are so cheap these days (3) dodgy lift... one of the lifts did not work properly. (4) Alderney advertises as having a gym, however most of the equipment is broken .

None of these was a deal breaker, but they definitely put the Alderney in the 'budget' quality range... which may be hy so many groups stay in them. (e.g. while we were there several cricket teams playing in a tournament at the WACA were staying in the hotel.

Overall, we we felt for the money we paid the standard was acceptable for our three night stay. If you can accept the scratches and dents and can get it at a good price its good value accomodation.

Have stayed here twice before and never had a problem. The hallways have been cleaned up and the apartment we stayed in (a superior room) was clean and bright and the furnishings were excellent. My suggestion is if you don't like the apartment shown to you, ask to see another. Some are below standard but some are definitely excellent.

I arrived at 6pm at this service apartment which was all closed and called the night duty manager's number as per the confirmation I received from the reservations before my arrival. I had to call 8 times until the phone was finally answered by a guy who was so disgruntle to assist.Rude was he to a person he was providing his service or employed to provide a service. Why have such night managers? The next day I approached the polite and apologetic front office manager about it to keep her informed . I have stayed in non 24/7 properties before but this was the worst managed one. This property seems to have problem with dodgy people who come to stay as well. Drunks, seem common in this place. Not fit for families to stay because there are no good staff in the night even if you call for security issues. The service apartment also looked very neglected over the christmas holiday period. Highly do not reccommend this service apartment.

Stayed there with my husband for the second time and for the second time there were disasters with people trying to get their keys to get in the room, it took us awhile to get to our room because we had to help everyone. No-assistance and the phone was not answering, what a shambles. The last time I stayed there I left my bathers hanging behind the door went back the same morning and the cleaners had been but no-one had seen my bathers but they were gone. I rang for 3 weeks but still no-one had seen them. Staff is nottrust worthy and they will never get a chance to rip me off again.

This hotel is advertised as 'self-rated 4 stars' but this is far from the case. We booked two rooms & they both looked like they had been through hell and back. All lthe linen except the pillow cases had cigarette burns, the furniture was scuffed, torn, ripped, faded the walls were dirty and marked, the towels felt like thin sandpaper. It is a very loud hotel and obviously attracts a rowdy clientele, there were people screaming/laughing/yelling until 4:40am. Not a place I would recommend to families or people who enjoy cleanliness.

Positives
The size of the rooms were excellent for a group of people
The balconies were well sized

Negatives
Very loud
Dirty
Old mis-treated ruined furniture & decor
Poor television reception
No worth the money

Will not stay here again.
