There was an event on when we stayed in Perth and we had to take the last option and stay at this hostel. At the time of booking we didnt realise how bad it was. When we checked in to our room we were all shocked by the smell and the state of it, the curtains were falling off the window, the carpet was damp, one of the quilts were wet, the pillows were too digusting for words and we found a couple in bed together (totally innocent) we were told that this was female only dorm. We went down to check and they said it was so busy they had to mix the dorms. the people in our room were pleasant enough and we had literally no where else to stay. we put our towels etc on top of the sheets and slept with our clothes on (well didnt sleep all night actually). when it was a decent hour we went down stairs to complain about the room and the staff were having none of it. we went to get our pillows and showed them the state if them and whilst showing them, bed bugs crawled out!! it was horrendous, we were in shock, the woman at the counter didnt bat an eyelid! we had just slept in those beds and there were bed bugs! worse still she admitted she knew and that the room had been fumigated that day! they let us stay in that room knowing it had the bugs and it had been sprayed with god knows what so no wonder it was damp and smelly. we must have argued for an hour or so while our friend got all our belongings out the room. i cant tell you how long we had to go on for to get our money back and leave the hostel, they put up a fight for it and we wouldnt back down. eventually they let us go and we had to go straight to the laundrette and wash the contents of our cases. a terrible experience i wouldnt want anyone else to go through, please dont ever stay here!! luckily we were taken in by a friend for 2 days. i would never go back to Perth because this hostel will always bring back bad memories. It should be shut down.

After not being able to get into my first choice of hostel, I saw a brochure for Globe which made it look like a really nice place to stay, we were told we could stay in a 4 bed en suite...ooh fab I thought, fancy for a backpackers..

Then we arrived and my god if the ground could have swallowed me up and spat me out in a proper hostel, I would have been much appreciative.

The staff were helpful but as soon as you walked in, you were greeted by what can only be described as a FESTY smell, a combination of body odour, alcohol, urine, it was disgusting. We got up to our room and immediately asked to swap. Our en suite 4 bed was crammed and smelt even worse than the public area and was sitting over the bar area which was incredibly noisy even after 11pm.

There was also construction work going on just next door which started in the early hours. All in all, the worst place I've stayed in Oz.

The toilets and showers are dirty and again, smell bad even after the housekeeper has done their job!!!

My advice, don't stay here even if its the last resort!!!!!

This is a really awefull place with small, dingy, dirty rooms and rude staff. My boyfriend and I had three nights booked here, however, after one night we chose to move to another place. We booked a double, ensuite room only to find out they messed up our booking. We were instead given a tiny single room (which they cramed a double bed into). Its was so small that my backpack had to be stored at the end of the bed as there was no room on the floor! The air-con was broken and the little window in our room was jammed shut so it was impossible to sleep. We had to share two toilets and two showers with with 24 other people (or 4 dorms each with 6 beds in). The showers were no more than a luke warm dribble, and the toilets stank of urine (after some of the guests used the sink as a toilet during the night as clearly the couple of loo's available between us were both occupied!). The sanitary bin was overflowing and you would not want to go in the bathroom bare footed as there were all types of sticky substances on the floor. The kitchen too was filthy, and the grill/oven was thick with food remains and rust. The free breakfast was 2 boxes of weetabix and 4 pints of milk which was put out at 7AM. If your not quick enough to get in then you dont get any! Not ideal for a hostel with a capacity of 90+ people. The staff refused to refund us for the 2 nights which we cancelled, even though we stressed that the hygiene was unacceptable (and reminded them that they had messed up our booking in the first place). They even tried to charge us an additional fee for cancelling the two nights. In a nutshell, dont stay here. There are far better backpackers to stay in. Or, for the same price you can get a little self contained apartment overlooking the Swan River with private facilities - the development is called Mountway Holiday apartments. They're not flash but they are heaps better than Globe Backpackers!

Really poor hostel - the rooms are small, cramped and above the bar and the bathrooms were filthy. Even after they were cleaned they smelled so bad that we couldn't wait to leave - the experience really put a shadow over our stay in perth.

The reception was also badly organised, they lost my internet booking (done through their own website) then when I phoned to confirm it (as I hadn't heard from them) I re-booked and they got the booking wrong. When we arrived reception was closed because their booking system seemed to have gone into melt-down and the staff were hassled and it took a lot of persuading to get any help out of them.

Having backpacked all over Australia, I can say this is one of the best hostels around. We had our own double room & there are also singles and dorms available. The hostel is spotlessly clean, TVs & DVD players in a lot of rooms, a huge kitchen, internet lounge, TV / movie room, job shop, videos & dvds to rent etc.
The staff are knowledgeable, helpful & friendly.
Location very central.
Much, MUCH better than most other hostels, well done the Globe!
