This hostel offers a very decent range of facilities. It is very clean. Great location near center. On the more expensive side. Downsides are the trains tracks next to hostel with trains driving through your dorm, however free earplugs provided at reception. No byo cause fully licensed. Pints at 7.5 dollar in cafe downstairs. Internet pretty expensive for these days but that is something that nees a change in many hostels in Oz.

It has been said before about the trains. They make a sharp turn right outside the rear of the hostel. It's very noisy and because there is a crossing around the bend, they have to sound their horns also. Some people can't handle this much night noise. It didn't bother me too much. I was, however, bothered by the filthy kitchens. They were infested with ants. Even after the cleaners has finished, the ants were still there. They were in peoples stored food. This is the worst hostel I have stayed in for guests not bothering to wash their dishes and clean up after themselves. You can't really blame the YHA for that, though. Room cleaning seemed efficient enough, no ants in there. The reception staff are happy to help you, so long as they don't have to get up and leave reception. They are helpful without being friendly, which is more like a bank than a hostel. You can get some good concessions on trips and tours. The building is huge and centrally located. The free CAT buses and airport shuttles stop near the front, which is convenient. Four bed dorms are cramped with battered old lockers. Good laundry. Good TV room, but for such a big room, the screen really needs to be larger. 'Street Doctor' and Red Cross vans use the next door car park for offering aid to the homeless/drunks/junkies/derelicts. Can be an issue. You end up having to cross the main road to avoid beggars and drunks. This is not every night, though. Overall, an average hostel that charges above average prices.

Room Tip: Not the rear of the building, and not the ground floor.

If you are in a room out the back then the train noise could be annoying for light sleepers. And yes the long term people here with their work boots left in the halls are a pain. And some of the walls have scuff marks.

But... pretty much everything else is great. Not far from the centre of town with its eating and entertainment options, close to transport links, nice décor in the reception area and while service can be a little slow they have a large selection of brochures. There are enough showers/toilets and the place a functional and upbeat vibe. I've never used the kitchen but it looks spacious enough, the laundry is conveniently located and the staff have always been very friendly.

If you are on a budget or just in town for a concert or something and want to save some cash this is a very good option.

Having stayed at several hostels in Perth, I have found this one to be the nicest by far. It's clean, the staff are friendly, it's got awesome facilities and it's in a great location.
The only down sides are that the rooms are on the small side and it is right next to the train line so you can hear the trains - nothing that a pair of earplugs won't fix though! It's not the cheapest in Perth, but in my experience it's definitely better to pay a couple more $'s than stay in some of the other hostels in this city!

A horrible hotel to stay. Right next to a train line and you get a train going past about once an hour from 12-5. Then it seems like every 15minutes and they all have a nice loud toot of there horn as they go past. Rooms are a mess full of long termers who take as much lockers as they want. And the halls are full of dirty work books, the full place just stinks. Staff are uninterested and dont seem to care. Just an awful hostel.

I have been staying in a few hostels in Perth and this one is by far the best. I have not seen facilities and standards similar to this hostel here. The staff is brilliant and they seem to love their jobs, the housekeepers are friendly and do a fantastic job keeping rooms, kitchens and bathroom clean at all times. yes it is more on the expensive side but Id rather spend a couple of extra dollars for a clean bed with crispy sheets, a very good security standard, gym, pool and bar.
All of the Northbridge hostels are filthy holes with party animals keeping you up at night while the Y seems to still provide a good atmosphere without the drunk bodies lining the corridors.
They offer good variety of tours with discounts to members too.
I just became a member and will certainly keep looking out for YHAs on my future travels!!!

Room Tip: try the 3rd floor for dorms, seems to be the quietest!
