“Not the best YHA.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

Considering YHA's charge more than other hostels, this is far from the best I have been in. There were cockroaches in the kitchen for a start. The rooms are small but comfortable, however, the hostel is next to a railway line so very noisy throughout the night.

The hostel is perfectly located as it's only a 2 min walk to the central train station, and it's directly opposite where the airport transfer bus drops off / picks up (which operates 24 hours and is $15 one-way). The hostel itself has everything you need, including a small gym and a swimming pool, which is always an added bonus. Great cooking facilities with absolutely every utensil you can think of, however there aren't any ovens, only hobs. The wifi is super quick and reasonably priced at $10 for 3 days' worth. There is also a small bar attached to the hostel which serves relatively cheap beer by Australian standards (about $7 a pint, I think), but the bar itself isn't particularly fancy.

We stayed in a twin room on the ground floor and back of the hostel. It was very very noisy not only because we could hear every conversation that was held in the BBQ area but also because there were trains passing all night long... To have an idea how loud it was - the other person had to repeat the sentence when a train passed by, you couldn't hear a word. It's not understandable that they charge the same price for those rooms.

The location is very good close to the city and (of course!!) the central station. The staff is very friendly and helpful and in general the hostel is clean. Only the furniture is old and looks very used and there is no decoration which gives the hostel a very impersonal atmosphere.

From all the 7 YHA's I stayed in Australia this was the most disappointing one. Normally I always recommend them but the YHA in Perth made my consider other hostels again.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a room at the back-- Trains and noises from the BBQ area make it impossible to sleep!

Nice and clean hostel. Very friendly staff at reception, friendly cleaning lady. Good place to stay with a baby (our son was then 10 month old and loved the double room). Centrally located and close to all sights.

The hostel was neither raveable or bad .
It wasn't exactly happening however .
Situated right in the city however it was very hard finding .
The city isn't to exciting so if your looking to go out or explore I'd advise seeing the other YHA it is close enough to northbridge which has clubs n strippers but for bars or travel site seeing you have to cab or catch train .
It's quite clean and liveable but I didn't find much happening theres no parties game nights or pub crawls and the bar in the hostel was pretty average when I compare to other back packers with bars/ nightclubs attached in australia the area of the city isn't really nice at all which tends to Mae you want to stay in with people : homeless hanging in the park next door
All and all I'd say its fine to stay in just plan your trips out wisely don't wait around for anything fun to happen here .
The staff are lovely and really relaxed .
The fact they had a gym was pretty good

I stayed in Room 217 from Nov 1 to Nov 6 2013. All in all my stay is good plus the TV room was great. The only thing that ruined my stay is my room mate who I think is staying there in a long term basis. He wakes up in the wee hours and like scream and curse...crazy and scary.

Best thing though is I shared a good stay with 2 European guys who are both in a working holiday. Too bad I didn't catch their names but we did managed to hang out for a night and drink. To the French guy who is a welder and the German young guy looking for a job in a restaurant, I do hope you find jobs soon.

Room Tip: Stay away from the 2nd floor haha

The older male in the bed below is determined to keep me awake all night. He works here sometimes, probably for accomodation. A quiet word about the title of this review has earned some consideration. I'm just spending the night, thank god. Room 310
