I chose to stay here as it was cheap. I was under no allusion that it would be amazing but from the website I assumed it would be of an acceptable standard. When I arrived the girl on reception was very friendly and directed me to my room. The room was cramped but not overly more so than any other hostels I had visited. Weirdly there was a double room off my room which appeared to be so small it just fitted a double bed in so the occupants had to keep their stuff in a locker in the main dorm room. The kitchen was so bad it made me want to cry. No cups or mugs to be found anywhere. What little cutlery there was was hidden in random places. The pot and pan selection was poor and all required a lot of scrubbing to clean before use. The Gas cookers were temperamental and needed matches or a lighter to actually use. None of which appeared to be present in the kitchen at all. The aircon that was supposed to be in the hostel was either never turned on or was simply ineffectual leading to
All windows in the room needing to be left open. Unfortunately this meant we got to enjoy the sound of a busy road all night at it's full volume. The tv area is
Nice but could do with some beanbags or cushions as there aren't many seats. The 'outback' balcony area may once have been very nice but now appears run down and in need of a makeover.
All in all this hostel could be great but needs some serious tlc at the moment I'd only recommend it to the desperate.

Got there around midnight. Although booked with hostelworld noone knew we were coming. Took quite some time until we were shown our room.
Very interesting... two other girls were living in there already for what looked like ages and had spread out onto the other beds and lockers. The girl giving the room to us just threw all their belongings on the floor and had a wipe over the plasic covered matresses for us. Then we were given sheets - looked very much as already used (and not washed since then).
The music was pumping and laying in bed you could littaraly feel the bass until about 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning.
The bathroom was dirty, the free breakfast was not possible to be eaten because there was simply no glasses, cups or anything like it to have it with. No, not even anything dirty...) The available internet just worked for 5 min, after that some other code was required, we didn't have and there was never anyone around to be asked...
The building and the rooms looked like it used to be a pretty good place that has just run down.
We could definately not recommend this place.

The people that this place attracts I really liked. Very similar to myself, backpacking around the world. I really liked this place as they let the locals stay (Australians), and that was such a great thing, to meet Aussies and have typical Aussie fun with them. Free BBQ's once per week, a bottle shop beneath the backpackers place. The balcony of this backpackers was the absolute highlight, views of the city and sunsets. EVeryone would gather there each night and party - it was such a great experience. The owners of this backpackers own one of the biggest clubs in Northbridge (20 meters walk down the road), and they gave guests from the backpackers free entry Wed, Fri & Sat, and once per week a $10 drink till you drop deal. Perfect for budget concsious travellers. And it was safe as it was so close to where you sleep.

I have stayed in many hostels in Australia and the best one I have ever been to is International Backpackers in Northbridge.
It is clean, safe and welcoming at first glance but most importantly it is run by three of the nicest and most genuine people you are ever going to meet. I was there for 6 months and I have never felt at home antwhere else but well home!!
When I ever go back to Perth I will stay there again and advise anyone to check it out for yourself.
Front door is coded for safety, rooms are spacious, lounge has a huge wide screen tv with Foxtel, internet is provided for a small fee and their is a balcony to socialise on, on those hot summer nights or cheap nights out are organised once a week if you fancied sampling the Northbridge night life...
A real diamond in the rough.

There is nothing bad to say about this hostel. Good breakfast set out every morning in a spacious and airy kitchen, lots of comfy bunk beds including a nice women's dorm, and excellent management by two of the sweetest, most sincere Aussies you will ever meet. The price is a great value and the location is super-central to Perth's best attractions. Booked for one night, ended up staying eight nights. That's how much I loved it.

  • Liked — the management -- they really make you feel special and welcome
  • Disliked — I wish there were more hostels this friendly and clean in the rest of Australia
