Bay of Islands Day Tour from Auckland
Reviewed 27 June 2014

My family - 2 adults and 2 teenagers visited the Treaty grounds on a very rainy day in June. We didn't know what to expect but were delighted by our visit. We bought the Ultimate combo ticket which includes Entrance, the Guided Tour and Cultural performance, the cost was worth every dollar and children under 17 were free. What a refreshing change to be able take our teenagers free of charge.

We arrived at lunchtime and had lunch in the super cafe - the meat pies were amazing. The cultural show, and we have been to a few, was very well done.. A story was told by one of the dancers whilst the remainder of this professioinal group sang, danced and displayed their Maori weaponary, all done with lots of 'gusto'.

Our tour guide was John, he was excellent and gave an amazing tour packed full of dates and historical information. Given the historical imporance of these grounds we were delighted to see how well they are kept. And even though it rained all day were still enjoyed walking round. We were also provided with Waitangi Ponchos to keep the rain at bay.

We would throughly recommend this as a 'must see & do' in Paihia.

The cultural performance was outstanding. Absolutely excellent. Visited the treaty grounds in June 2014. Great place to visit if you like historical sites and cultural performances. Additional cost for the cultural performance, but it is worthwhile to get a piece of the NZ native Maori culture.

an emotional experience felt by both my partner and myself largely due to the 'hair raising' performances by the cultural group........skilled, informative, vibrant and professional.......felt very proud of them and proud to be a kiwi at Waitangi.

We visited in April and decided to go on the guided tour and take in the cultural show.

My partner was fortunate enough to be selected as the visiting Chief and was subjected to special treatment during the cultural performance that gave a light hearted run down of Maori customs and culture. The orator was simply awesome and stunningly talented. Would go again just to listen to her and watch her perform. Well done to local Iwi who supply the talent and no doubt maintenance of this stunning and superb place...that provides us with an insight to the historical background and early beginnings.

Extremely impressed.
I was the one who stepped forward to be "the chief" of those watching. it really added to the experience. Well delivered and thought out display that covered alot of area's. I have been to a few things like this but this was one of the best I have been too.
The rest of the grounds were stunning, just wandering around the house and Waka's really gave you a sense of what it would have felt like being there at that time. Everyone was really helpful and was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Cheers
