Pleasantly suprised with what the hotel was and what it offered. Studio room gave us plenty of room and great vacilities.Bed was very comfortable and large.
We did experience diffilculty with the reception staff as they had limited english skills. In fact while we were there we were the only europeans that we saw! I felt being a New Zealander, at least one reception member should be able to converse in English well. Still they tried and they did help when asked. Cafe had limited food to purchase and felt that could be upgraded a bit. For breakfast we went down the road to The Albion and had a magnificent cooked breakfast for next to nothing. Just ignore the surroundings, the food was great.Breakfast was too dear at the hotel for what was offered we felt.
But we would stay there again for the rooms, they were lovely. very handy to walking the city and finding a resturant in the evening.

We stayed at the Auckland City Hotel one day before leaving for the Cook Islands and four days on our return. We were pleasantly surprised at this modern, very clean, hotel in the heart of Auckland for $100 (NZ) approx. $50 US per night (at the time of our stay).

It was quiet and within walking distance to the harbor (we do like to walk) and just next door it seemed to the tower. The staff was very accomodating - they allowed us to leave bags while we were gone, and even came up with a small wire to use in clearing a hearing aid tube (nothing that you might need, but it did show their willingness to go the extra mile. (The lack of hearing had nothing to do with the "quiet" room - my partner has not trouble hearing).

Though there was no breakfast included, we found the cafe within the hotel to be very reasonable for breakfast and dinner. Besides the coffee included more than one cup.
The Mai Thai restaurant within a couple of block - maybe three- was one of the best meals on our trip.

We've already recommended this hotel to our friends from the area and I'd highly recommend it for anyone else.

We recommended this gem of a hotel

From outside you would never guess this hotel is as nice as it is. We stayed 3 nights in a studio room and were pleasantly suprised at the size and facilities that it provided. The staff were very friendly and happy to help. There is an independent cafe located inside the hotel and it is really worth trying out. The owner is fantastic, the food is lovely (especially the white chocolate muffins!) and it's really cheap. The only downside to this hotel is its location, there seemed to be a lot of homeless people hanging around outside which made us feel quite unsafe when coming in at night. Will definately return again next time we're in town.

We used this hotel on Trip Advisor's recommendation and it was really great. We were impressed by the standard of the rooms, the cleanliness and the keen helpfulness of all the staff, who made our stay a joy. The cenral location was very convenient. Very good value for money.

My wife, I and another family member stayed in this Hotel for 4 days in late March after a 2 weeks escorted, touring of the 2 Islands holiday .
After staying in nearly a dozen hotels in NZ including Mercure Hotel on Customs Street in Auckland, I rate the Auckland City Hotel an extremely clean and quiet Hotel. Its studio room is very spacious and simply the best in value for my money. The location in CBD is very good. A Church stands peacefully next to a Hostel for Homeless people indeed are opposite to the Hotel, but these folk did not cause any trouble whatsoever . During my stay, I saw a few hanging outside the Hostel during the day time, but none in the evening. I met many staff members, from porters, receptionists and the General Manager in the foyer and room service personnel in my room. The staff whom I met were ethnic Chinese, Malaysian, African, Russian and American and they were all very courteous and professional. Above all, knowledgeable about the City and extremely warm and helpful. During my stay, the room remained warm without the use of a heater that was provided despite the chilly nights. The hotel's gated car park was secured by registration. As the hotel operates a no smoking policy inside the Hotel, I however am a smoker. I certainly appreciate the Hotel's provision of clean chairs, table with an ashtray that was emptied by hotel staff regularly, and a brolly at the end of the said car park, so I could enjoy a cigarette or two in an open air area without offending others. The Malaysian restaurant in the Hotel that I had good coffee was clean and efficient, I am unable to comment on its food quality though I knew it offered half priced noodle dishes as a special offer during my stay.
As a matter of fact, I am certain that I would stay in this Hotel should I return to Auckland city.

This is a great place to stay in Auckland's CBD. The rooms are extremely well appointed and it's walking distance from major attractions. Also, the hill up from where the airport bus drops you really isn't bad at all, we walked it with two toddlers and several suitcases. We stayed in a duplex and a kitchen, and got an amazing price on expedia. And even though on expedia the price was only for two adults, when we arrived with four adults and two kids they didn't charge us extra. I would definitely stay here again!

We arrived in New Zealand and this was our first hotel we would stay in during a months tour.

We couldn't of picked a better place to stay, the room was big, clean, modern, quiet and the bed was great to get over the jet lag.

The bathroom was modern and the shower was great.

The service we recieved was brilliant and the new cafe downstairs was lovely.

Our only criticisms (or rather things that could have been improved) were parking (we chose to use valet and it was a touch pricey), the breakfast was ok - but not amazing. and finally the one way streets (trying to find the hotel) made it a little tricky - but as long as you have a map it is relatively easy to find.

Overall all though we'd definitely recommend this hotel.
