I lived in a two bed dorm, which was well kept and clean. Nice location: a short walk to Mt. Eden, and the bus to Auckland passes right outside the house. The staff is helpful and friendly. The kitchen is sufficiently equipped.

My husband and I only stayed here for the 1 night. It's quite far out so unless you drive I wouldn't recommend it. Our double was ok and the staff were really helpful and accommodating . However our room was next to reception on the ground floor. So we could hear absolutely everything going on in the kitchen and the telephone calls that were made in the entrance hallway (which is where the hostel phone is)
We could also hear people coming back from a night out at 2am and people going off to work at 6am so not the most peaceful of nights.

Room Tip: Would avoid room 10 double room next to reception

Thanks for your review. Yes if you want to be downtown this probably isn't the place for you. But if you do have a car we are one of the few hostels with car parking and there is a bus stop almost outside which takes you into town in about 10 minutes. Sorry about the noise, this isn't the best room for light sleepers.

Ok, Our experience here was great, the house is really beautiful and with big spaces, the kitchen is pretty big and so are the common spaces, we booked a twin room with shared bathroom and also stayed in the outside cabins with private bathroom (really nice) the staff was good, Andrew was really helpful and considerate. You can take the bus almost from the entrance of the hostel to go downtown and back, supermarkets, banks, shoppings, are just a few blocks away from it too. You will also find lots of parking space in this lovely place. The downsides: they gave us 200 mb of internet each, 400 in total, they where gone in a couple of hours just by surfing the web, without using youtube, or downloading anything, you can pay for more internet but the system they use is is totally akward and is by far one of the worsts i have tried around the world, the other thing was the other backpackers, some of them where great, others... well... they made a mess in the kitchen, however there is a camera in the kichen to check after that kind of people, so... CLEAN AFTER YOURSELVES PLEASE. Great Hostel!!

Room Tip: The outside rooms with private Bathroom are really nice and by the moment of this review where just...

After one week in this Backpacker, I can say that the staff is really nice, friendly and helpful. The room are clean, nice and cosy. The house is charming and it's located in a lovely suburb in Auckland, close to the Mount Eden. So don't hesitate to go to see a sunset or sunrise.

Bamber House is a beautiful structure located in a lovely, residential location, with just about all the amenities (including kitchen facilities) that one could want. Friendly, helpful staff, and lovely location - just about a stones throw away from perhaps the best vista in Auckland - Mt. Eden. What more could one ask for?

We stayed here for 2 nights. We were in one of the newer self-contained cabins out back. Super clean. You get a fridge, 2 glasses / 2 mugs and a kettle, which is nice because we could make coffee and tea. Towels are provided as well. The common areas in the old house are awesome. Big comfy couches to read or use the wifi. We got free-wifi vouchers that were so much data it was almost impossible to use up.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, arranging airport transfers and giving directions for taking the bus downtown (one bus, cheap and direct).
The area is nice with a shopping centre and restaurants within walking distance. Great big, clean kitchen and large dining area.
Would definitely stay here again.
