“Horrible place”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2011

I intended to stay in this place for three days but I moved out just after one night. The room itself was tolerable, two beds, clean bedding, but it was overlooking busy and noisy street. Moreover, all the wall in the hotel were paper-thin so I could hear all neighbours very clearly all night. The most horrible were communal spaces - dark kitchen and very ugly bathrooms. After spending there one night I decided to move out and stayed in YHA instead.

Thank you for your comments and appreciate the time taken to put a review here for us, we do endeavour to keep the communal kitchen cleaned at all times and also putting the onus back on the guests to clean up after themselves and sometimes this does not happen, so we will try and do our best next time.

we had a studio room for 6 nights. It was cheap with a kitchen, tv, bathroom and 2 single beds edged together to make a double bed. The room didnt get much sunlight and the view was just a back of another building but it didnt matter much as we were out during the day. TO sum it all, no frills cheap central place to stay in auckland.

I agree with most of the reviews, it is a decent place to stay for the price charged and the staff is very friendly. One thing negative though, if you stay there sharing a room, try not to stay on the 5th floor, it is not as nice and can be very noisy. I stayed there on a Friday night and people drank and screamed practically all night next door to my room. The next day I was moved to the 4th floor which was a 100% better.

I travelled in NZ for some time, and stayed in several hostels before finding this one. This has the best atmosphere, furniture, room size, people, and price. After that all the long periods of time I would stay in Auckland earning some money, I always stayed at City Travellers Auckland. The rooms were a good size, with real mattresses, large closets, and a bureau. The kitchen and living areas were communal, however they were only shared with the other four or so rooms in the area you were staying. So it could be very intimate, and feel like a flat, but when I needed some socializing the fifth floor had a very large beautiful kitchen, and a balcony that people would congregate by and have some fun. Altogether I stayed at this hostel for 10 months, and I would never have gotten a flat for the same price, or all the experiences. Less than a 10 minute walk to Queen St. or K'rd, the two most popular travelling areas in the city, and less than 5 minute walk to a grocery store. Leaving City Travellers, I left life long friends you only meet when living together in somewhere you want to be.

Received a nice warm welcome and quick check-in. The location is great - walking distance to main auckland go-sees such as the harbour, the museum or the sky tower. The room itself was large and roomy, but not overly clean and the decor was very tired - all the paint had peeled off round the windows and the cabinet in the bathroom had no handles and the wood was beginning to rot. A shame really as this has the potential to be a fabulous place.

I was in Auckland looking for a flat, and needed a place to stay. My plan was to spend 2-3 weeks here maximum. I ended up staying close to 4 months. In the end I had too much fun there to want to get off my butt and look for another place. The manager, Ranz, is also the owner, so he keeps the place ticking along without the nonsense that can be found in some other places. The night manager, Ahmed, was good value too. When I was there there was a large longterm contingent of people from France and South America, that were a blast to hang out with. There was a fire on the top floor a month or so before I arrived so that area had been totally renovated. Many a good night drinking and (for some) smoking on the fifth floor balcony. The only negative I can think of was someone had taken the knobs off the oven, and I would have liked to seen those replaced earlier. But, we made do MacGyver style. All round, I can't say enough about the great time I had there.

The title says it all really. This clean well presented accommodation is situated just of the centre of Auckland. A short and convenient walk to all the major sites and transport centres. The organisation is spot on, even though I messed them around with my booking. The cooking facilities really help those wishing to cut a few of those city costs and are beyond what you'll find in a hostel.

Thumbs up.
