Our tour had an early morning stop at Glenbrook. The train ride consisted of number 179 pulling red open and closed carriages. I was allowed a footplate ride for half the journey. Great fun. The loco works and shed are well worth a visit with engines that are used on the main lines for special trains. we had a photo shoot on the return trip. Back at the station is a nice shop with books and DVDs for the enthusiast, as well as a nice restaurant served by ladies in period costume.
This is a must for any rail enthusiast visiting New Zealand . Wonderful friendly staff who volunteer their time for a great cause.
