Busy vibrant area with many attractions and a terrific view of Auckland City from the top of Mt Victoria. Walk up if you are fit but you can drive up. Large number of restaurants, coffee shops and trendy shops all in a relatively compact area. One can park there and catch the the modern boats to the City or Waiheke Island. Well worth a visit.

Lovely little village just a boats ride away from Auckland, completely different atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of Auckland CBD. Walked up Mount Victoria and looked across the water to the stunning sight of Auckland CBD and the Auckland Bridge.

Devonport is wonderful destination if you are visiting Auckland and need just a little escape from the CBD and rush. It is like a small village with great main road where galleries, small shops and nice cafes give plasure to all of your senses:-) you can get there by the ferry. Enjoy a beer or a glass of wine on your way there, look how the Devonport ferry buliding gets closer and then you are there, only some 15 minutes away from the CBD.
Right next to the ferry building is a great playground for kids, library and nice beach. Main road takes you towards Mount Victoria and if you are after a great view over Auckland you can climb up and enjoy breathtaking views.
I lived there 1.5 years and I visit Devonport every time when I am in Auckland and have some spare time. You can just have a walk there or spend the whole day with friends or family. I could write a book about Devonport but I think that it is better if you go there and let it write a nice page or two in your diary. You won't rgrett if you visti Devoport.

We enjoyed our short ferry ride to Devonport and walking around the port area, including a very nice park where we saw several folks getting a Segway lesson prior to doing a Segway tour. Had a bite to eat, wandered through the shops and then boarded the ferry for our return to Auckland. This is an inexpensive way to get some downtime, enjoy the ferries and breezes along the way, and to view Auckland skyline from afar and then enjoy the Auckland harbor on your return trip.

If you want to be away from the crowds in Auckland and a ferry trip away this is the place. Many places to visit good restaurants and the view from Mt Victoria back to Auckland at sunset is wonderful
