The hotel staff was OUTSTANDING....
Its location that is bit off the beaten track gives you the opportunity to walk the waterfront. Thoroughly enjoyed tha peaceful bit of heaven we found in Auckland. The hearty breakfast prepared us for a non-stop day of sightseeing. The lobby and surrounds offer delightful area to veg.

We have stayed at the Auckland Sofitel about 5 times now in the last year and twice previously when it was the Lighter Quay.
We enjoy the rooms, the location and the rather beautiful appearance of the hotel in general.
However on check in I found the young woman who served us (and who has also served us in the past) very lacking in a genuine and welcoming attitude.
Bonjour and Bonsoir sound fairly out of place when not one more word of French is known.
Also to be handed a keycard with a verbal "welcome to the Sofitel" is rather odd when one has visited at least 4 times in the last year . Surely it would be more genuine and actually knowing of your customer's movements to say "Welcome back to the Sofitel Ms......" - This may seem rather unimportant, but I certainly did not feel very important at all as a customer, nor genuinely appreciated as I do at the Westin in Melbourne and the Intercontinental in Hong Kong (Kowloon) both of which we visit with a similar regularity.
Maybe management at the Auckland Sofitel could encourage their front desk staff to be friendly and helpful, actually communicating with the customer, rather than merely reading a somewhat out of place script.

Stayed here 2 nights at end of NZ tour. Valet parking was fine and the room was well appointed and quiet. Lots of space, good wifi and small kitchen area. Wifi is limited to 500Mb, but subsequent use is cheap. Lots of facilities, which we did not use. Breakfasts were standard continental or full. The continental options were a bit limited and expensive, but not unusual for a large international hotel. The big plus is the hotel location right in the heart of the new marina area. Walking to the many bars and restaurants was a real pleasure, seeing all the big boats. If we had stayed longer, we would have used the gym and swimming pool.

Good hotel close to CBD. Well appointed rooms - only mark against was housekeeping knocking on door to clean our room at 9am, when we were checking out at 11am! Otherwise a lovely hotel with a good bar and very luxurious lobby.

We stayed at the Sofitel on our last night in New Zealand after travelling by campervan for 10 days through both islands. Although we slept well throughout our trip, the beds at the Sofitel were just amazing!
We very much liked the location, which was right on the harbour and a 5 minute walk away from the restaurant strip. New Zealand is a very expensive country but we booked the Sofitel on expedia and got a pretty good deal.
Rooms are really great, with beautiful bathrooms and although we didn't use the rest of the facilities we did walk by the pool which seemed very nice. Although, like most of Asia, they don't have rooms with 2 double beds (just singles), we opted for the king and they were able to fit in a rollaway for my son.
