I can't imagine how anyone has given this a 'terrible' review. This is a very classy 5 star hotel in a great location and with great staff.

My only negative is that even though it's 5 star, the bar doesn't have to charge an arm and a leg for wine by the glass. Once you start topping the $20 mark for 180ml of vino, it's pushing the friendship. And the bar itself does not match the quality of the rest of the hotel. You're much better off walking the 500m or so down to the bar and restaurant area of viaduct for a tipple.

And yes, like all 5 star hotels they can't find their way to include wifi. It's simply criminal that the big hotels are getting away with this. When you're paying 300 bucks a night for a sleep you'd think a free internet signal could be included. If backpackers can offer it up, why can't the big hotel chains. It's a disgrace. Rant over...

Room Tip: Skip the hotel bar and head down to the restaurant/bar area of viaduct harbour.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel. It is a pretty location but not city center...about a 20 minute walk to downtown shopping. There are some nice walks around the hotel and in the Harbour area. The room was very spacious, hotel staff very friendly and helpful, and a WestPac ATM directly across the street from the front entrance.

Room Tip: Eat breakfast at the cafe with outdoor seating if the weather is nice. It is most pleasant.

The Sofitel Auckland has an inspiring lobby & good-sized modern rooms, some with amazing marina views. The piece de resistance is the bathroom. It's large, with marble benches, an oversized free-standing bath & a powerful "waterfall" shower head. All the things you need to prepare for a night in one of the most comfortable beds you'll ever find.
So imagine my disappointment when they lost our room service order. The replacement meal then took 15mins longer then promised. The meal (lamb rack) was cooked to perfection when it finally arrived. By the time I discovered the pepper shaker was empty, with no cap on the bottom, I was too ravenous to care.
Many TripAdvisor reviews are suggesting that sloppy service standards are letting down this luxurious hotel. I would have to agree.

Stayed here after a cruise from Sydney. Very modern hotel, comparable to a W resort. Great location on the marina with million dollar yachts parked below. Room was large and clean with a huge bathroom, full tub and walk in shower. Reasonable price after considering US currency conversion rate. Found it surprising they charge $20 for 2gb of WiFi usage however.

Room Tip: Marina view rooms are great, but I wouldn't be unhappy with a room that faces the internal atriu...

Always a favourite and ideal for those doing business in Auckland. Great rooms and some with a view of the Viaduct. The front desk and concierge are great and happy to assist! Easy to get out and about with some great bars and eateries nearby as well as great walking around the viaduct and harbour area. Breakfast servcie is too slow.. always waiting on a table, so probably recommend you get on with your day away from the hotel...

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a view of Viaduct
