This is a peaceful boutique property with seemingly zen-inspired decor upon entry. Staff was superb, restaurants were also very quaint and pleasing. The actual room views are not overwhelming, but ours did look out over a section of the Viaduct Harbour - which would possibly have been more intriguing with better weather and sailing activity. Also, would have enjoyed slightly improved fitness equipment and wet (jacuzzi) area, but the stay overall was enjoyable.

Room Tip: Harbour view

This was our second visit to the Sofitel Viaduct Harbour in the last 12 months. This visit was a weekend escape with my husband for my birthday. Being Accor Members we cashed in one of our complimentary nights and upgraded to a luxury room with free Wi Fi on the 6th floor that overlooked the marina.
The location is central but at the quieter end in the Wynyard Quarter. However if being a party animal is your choice and you desire being part of the action, it is an easy stroll to the hustle and bustle of the bars, shops and restaurants that the Viaduct Harbour is well known for.
The Hotel offers valet parking ( at an extra cost of $35) which we were happy to pay as you can get anywhere you need to on foot in the area and parking otherwise is difficult.
The staff are very professional, genuinely friendly and efficient. Nothing is a problem. Our room was spacious and spotless with a lovely view of the harbour and the bed .... oh so comfortable. If I was going to upgrade my bed, I wouldn't mind knowing where this wonderful bed was sourced. Our room also came with an oversized marble bathroom complete with a deep soak bathtub and a large rainforest shower.
It was the extra touches that make the difference here. As well as the turndown service complete with chocolate , I was impressed with the personalised handwritten welcome note waiting in our room on our arrival. Another great touch is a complimentary drinks voucher for two to be redeemed at the downstairs uber chic "Sabrage" Champagne Bar. My husband and I snuggled in an intimate booth and sipped Baileys on ice and just soaked in the atmosphere. Sublime.
But wait there's more.. I didn't mention the food. After having a lengthy stroll around the harbour we decided to eat in house. The Lava Restaurant is fabulous with awesome staff. Top marks to the restaurant staff with a special nod to our waitress Susann ( I apologise if I have spelt your name wrong) Fun and bubbly and very knowledgeable about the menu with matches and recommendations for side dishes. The food was faultless, delicious and beautifully presented using locally sourced ingredients. I had a hankering for whitebait and my husband loved his ostrich as an entree. For our main I had the chicken breast and my husband had the lamb. After this feast we shared a peanut butter parfait for dessert.
Breakfast the following morning was delicious and tantalisingly displayed in a contemporary French Farmhouse Kitchen setting. This was a massive upgrade since our last visit. We went for the $39 Full breakfast which is the continental combo cooked breakfast. As Accor members we get 50% off this price. The breakfast service was efficiently run and even though the restaurant was reasonably full with diners there were no delays. I especially loved the "In house" prepared granola soaked in honey then toasted. Yum. My husband loves to indulge his sweet tooth with danish pastries. The espresso coffee was excellent.
What more can I say. Faultless through and through. The Sofitel will be our preferred accommodation on every visit to Auckland. Well done you are up there with the best.

Room Tip: If you are an Accor member consider an upgrade overlooking the harbour, they are quieter

This was our first stay back at the hotel since it was taken over by Sofitel, we love the location and vies from this hotel, and the Sofitel management have done a great job in adding a bit more luxury to this hotel, the service from all the staff was great and whilst we only had one meal here that to was excellent, if you are looking for a luxury hotel, with a good location, and friendly service, you really don’t need to look any further.

We stayed here for 3 nights and I will admit we had very high expectations being the Sofitel but they were not met. Our room was located over the street which was noisy.
We had to request the coffee machine twice and that was annoying as that was meant to be in our room before we got there.
The actual furniture looked knocked around.
I will say the bathroom was lovely and large but the bedroom itself we were very disappointed.
I did appreciate the turn down service in the evening.
I wouldn't stay there again personally but it may have been a case of we were just unlucky.

We arrived from LA on the overnight Air NZ flight and a quick (but circuitous as there is no direct route from the airport to center city) cab ride got us to the hotel about 10 AM. Of course rooms were not available but we were able to check our bags, catch showers in their well appointed spa, and head out for a few hours until our room was ready.

The location is great - many sites within walking distance or a quick cab ride.

We had large rooms overlooking the water.

Service was great and breakfast on the terrace was great.

Recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a water view
