“A Good Getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

I stayed here with my 8 year old daughter for our annual girls weekend. We always choose a new and what we hope is a luxury hotel. The hotel is in a great location for The Wynyard Quarter and the Viaduct. We loved the pool and Jacuzzi they were very clean and a great temperature. There were always lots of fresh towels to use and it was never very busy. The gym was also great and loved the touch of fruit bowls with fresh apples. We checked in at 2 and went to our room but it had the wrong bedding, it did take a little too long to rectify this and was only done after a few phone calls but no worries. We got to our new room but it was missing any coffee or tea - again easily rectified. The room and bathroom were lovely and spacious and the beds very comfy. We had room service and it was prompt and all the staff were very very nice. Breakfast was amazing, you would need to stay a few nights to try everything, this is he best spread I have ever seen in a hotel..very yummy. We were well looked after and really enjoyed our stay except for the 2 hiccups.

Room Tip: Our first room had a view over the bus terminal which wasn't great but we changed had a view of...

We spent 2 nights at the Sofitel Auckland, the rooms were very well appointed and you just sank into the beds they were extremely luxurious. A very comfortable property with extremely attentive staff. We had breakfast each day and this was to a very high standard. Overall a really fine hotel as you would expect for these rates.

We stayed here as we couldn't get into the Langham, but we were looking forward to it as the other reviews are so positive. As other reviews have said it is like entering a boutique hotel, very quiet and very calming. Despite it being 3.05pm when we checked in our room wasn't ready but we were given complimentary teas and coffees and a fluffy for the little one which was a nice touch. No big deal. Then the bell boy came over and told us our bags were in our room, except he'd manage to transpose the room number. Again no big deal. It was soon in our room. Then when we tried to order afternoon tea we were told that it had to be pre booked. When I asked if I could book for the next day the waiter said he didn't know and would check "because we are usually very busy on a Saturday and Sunday." In fairness he did come over 10 mins later and tell us it was ok.

The room itself (junior suite) was nice and well appointed but you did feel like you were in a goldfish bowl as immediately opposite were other hotel rooms and on the other side apartments. Ignoring the rooms and apartments you can see the city and boats in the marina. Certain bits of furniture were chipped and wallpaper in the bathroom peeling slightly.

Look, are these big deals in themselves? No they aren't, but at $1000/2nights you do expect it to be perfect.

Nice hotel, nice location, just not quite there.

This modern hotel offers wonderful accommodation and service. The rooms, restaurants and breakfast areas and outside dining areas were all superb. As a season business traveller I am more critical than most people but there was nothing to criticise here - quite the reverse. I took a small suite or larger room with a marina view and it was rather special.

Room Tip: Some of the courtyard rooms are bigger than the harbour facing views and possibly they are a bit qui...
