“Consistent Quality”

This was our second stay at the Crowne Plaza in Auckland and again we were not disappointed. There is construction work going on next door but we did not experience any noise or inconvenience from it. The rooms are well apointed and the shower is excellent. Only negative is the charge for internet access which I always think is a cheek from any hotel.

The hotel is very well located, but Auckland CBD is not that big anyway. The rooms are good, the breakfasts are OK but it lacks any athmosphere or sense of place. Just another well run hotel.

This was our usual first night stay after an early morning flight into New Zealand. In the passed we have always found this hotel to be of the typical Crown Plaza standard. This year though there was chaos in the reception area. The approach drive to the hotel was blanked off as it's under reconstruction. Whilst this is unavoidable there were no adequate signs for the taxi driver to follow for put down and no signs for quests to follow to get to reception. Further no apologic message from the management for the inconvenience.

Over the years this hotel seems to have taken on more and more coach parties making the reception area often very crowded and intimidating. There are insufficient staff in this area, particularly the concierge staff who are over loaded with guest requiring attention and service.

There seems to be no specific area for check in/out for those guest who belong to the Priority Club at whatever level.

However, once you are through the rugby scrum of the lobby and are fortunate enough to be allocated a room on the club floors (floor 27 and 28) then things begin to revert back to normal.

As mentioned in other reviews the club lounge is very pleasant with a good view over the harbour. There is free wired internet available in the lounge but the wifi in the rooms is very expensive. (When are hotels of this calibre going to cotton on to the fact that in the present day and age everybody needs internet access. It is a necessity and not a luxury to be able to communicate on a daily basis and not be charged an arm and a leg for the privilege).

The hotel is just a short walk from all the local amenities and right next to the Sky Tower.

My reward level was recognised by the hotel and appropriate upgrades were granted. The staff on the whole were very pleasant though most were over worked. I had one run in with the late afternoon club lounge attendant who seemed rather rude and not clued up, but the management soon sorted the matter out.

Will I stay again? probably, but I am giving thought to looking elsewhere to dispose of my hard earned dollars.

Room Tip: Floor 27 and 28 have the best views. It's worth a few dollars more for the canapés and breakfast...

This was a good time to go as there was mayhem in their foyer area. A complete revamp. I suspect the great deal that we got was due to this. A club room for 4 nights with canapes, drinks and breakfast. As with our stay at the Rydges Wellington they added a credit card surcharge its tacky. I would have been happier to pay $20 extra up front. Also there is free internet that is not well explained and confusing so I paid another $20 for internet use because I was ignorant.
All in a great good value stay though.

3 nights $130/night King Bed Superior.

Pros
- Location is great one street away from Queen St and less than 10min to Auckland Harbour.
- Large spacious rooms
- Mini bar and tea/coffee facilities available
- Complementary use of business centre with printer. (Internet access is very expensive).
- Self laundry machines are provided.

Cons
- Busy reception area as there are business and commercial offices within the building.

Overall good value hotel in the heart of the city. Wifi is extremely pricey.

We enjoyed out stay at the Crowne Plaza in Auckland especially after the long flight from Hong Kong. It is a standard Crowne Plaza that can be found all over the world but the great part is that it is within walking distance to everything in Auckland. We looked at the Hyatt and the Sofitel while we were in Auckland but in terms of Value for Money Crowne Plaza was a great choice for us since we drove all over the city and surrounding areas. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep. As a Priority Club Platinum I did get an upgraded room for our two night stay! The views of the city from the hotel on the top floors are good as well. I would stay here again.

We stayed at this fab hotel for 2 nights 23rd-25th jan, we had a superior room on the 17th floor looking right out onto the city theatre. The room was very spacious with modern decor and the bed was amazing you just melted into it. When we swiched on the tv it had a personlized message on it welcoming us to the hotel which was a lovely touch. The bathroom was very big and had a great shower & bath. We stayed B&B and found the breakfast food to be exellent with a huge variety to choose from, the staff were very friendly and very helpful too. The hotel is very central for the city shops and eating places and is only 1 block away from the Auckland Sky Tower, all in all we found this hotel to be an exellent all rounder and would defo book it again.

Room Tip: Book a high floor for great views.
