“Absolutely Dreadful!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2008

What can I say, except it was a dreadful experience. The room allocated was tired, dirty and small. The view was of a brickwall, with little light, peeled paint, stained carpet, roll- together mattress with threadbare sheets, and a note in the bathroom stating that a 15 minute shower was the maximum allowed for hot water, which is not sufficent for two showers.
We had booked a second night upon the return from our trip but cancelled and stayed at the Quadrant for a similar price and far superior room.

Our room was on the 3rd floor and first impressions were of a small room that was a bit dated, but basically fine. The bed was comfortable and there was a large flat screen TV. The bathroom was OK except for the door which was very difficult to shut!

Location is perfect from an exploring point of view, but not if you want a decent nights sleep!

The main problems came due the fact that our room overlooked the carpark. At 4am on the Sat the dustbin lorry came to empty all of the bins so we were woken to the sound of smashing glass and reversing lorries. This was repeated again all night on the Sat night, again lorries and cars, but also accompanied by people shouting and singing who had been out drinking. In the end we gave up on sleep and had an eary start to our next destination.

I would have rather paid a bit more for a better hotel where you could actually sleep!

noisy room, very basic furniture, smells of cig smoke.good location but would rather spend a little more to be comfortable.

I stayed here with a tour group. This hotel is very convenient to Sky City and the noise I heard all night was proof. The beds were horrible, the hot water was limited and the breakfast was barely edible. I can't comment on the price as it was included in the cost of my tour, but I am sure it is equal to the quality that was lacking in this hotel. Being from the States, I was surprised that Best Western would put their name on a place this substandard. U.S. travelers should not be fooled by the Best Western logo. I am just thankful we only had to stay one night before going on to Rotorua.

The reason for our trip to Auckland was to go to a concert and visit friends, so we were only looking for somewhere to crash at night as we were out all day. This hotel met our requirements, as the location was perfect, it was a reasonable price and safe/secure.

We were not impressed with the mold on the walls in the room or with the plastering that hadn't been painted. The blankets on the bed were also old and worn.

On arrival at the hotel we were allocated a room that was not what we had booked on line, although they were quick to correct the error.

We had no problem with the service, they were pleasant. I would classify this hotel as one step up from a hostel. Basic accommodation but without the noise etc that you get in hostels.

The hotel is very central and adjacent to a backpacker place and is somewhat basic, the room we booked into reminded us of our son's university room. The first night we were on the 4th floor with one window over a public alleyway. Most of the night until 4 in the morning we were disturbed by a group of up to 12 lads drinking in the alleyway below. We asked to be moved at 3.30am, we were so fed up. The lads even had an easy chair in the alley and boxes to sit on. Next morning we moved to a 13th floor room which was far enough away from the alley but not the Bungi catapult opposite which operated past 3am sending various people into the air, level with our window, accompanied by the usual screaming. We could also still hear and feel the base units in the cars driven around by the sad inadequates that own such vehicles. My recommendation is stay outside the city centre if you want any sleep, particularly on weekends.
