“Clean, but nothing fancy”
Reviewed 25 May 2012

Stayed at the Best Western for 5 nights last february. The hotel is located in the city center of Auckland right next to the skytower, which is the best feature of this hotel. Other than that it is just a very simple, average hotel. I got a room next to the receiving hood of their kitchen, which made a lot of noise 24/7. Quit exhausting when you are staying there for 5 nights. Interior was outdated, but well maintenanced. The bed was large and comfortable and the linen was clean, just like the rest of the room. But the bathroom was way to small, and the showerhead was so low at the wall that I couldn't fit under it. So I had to bow while washing my hair, little bit weird, isn't it?

They have a restaurant available for breakfast which is small and nothing special, but the food was good and there was enough variety. It was closed dinner time and there was no room service, so I had to leave the hotel in order to get food. There is a small convenience store next to the hotel but there is no pool, no spa, no gym, no dining room, no bar, etcetera.

Just a simple, clean hotel for whoever needs to be in a affordable place in the city center of Auckland.

We have just stayed here for 3 nights and from what others have written it seems like a totally different hotel. Our room on the 13th floor was huge we had windows on both sides and there was no noise not even on a busy Saturday night, the decor and the furniture in the room was new and modern.
The location of the hotel is 2nd to none everything is right outside the door, we had a car so used the underground carpark which was a little "tight" but not a problem.
Breakfast is simple and very nice no complaints at all.
The hotel staff were very helpful and went out of there way to find out information for us and also they have a great understanding of their city.

We would definately use this hotel again on our next visit to Auckland and it was priced very very reasonably.

Room Tip: 1302 room was perfect 1 very large bed and another in the room.

This the first time I'm writing a review on something, but I felt compelled to WARN future travelers of this "hotel". The only benefit of this place is the centralized location, but there are so many other places who are just as well-located. Do yourself a favor and stay there instead!!!! I'm just going to list out all the cons for easy reading:
1. room feels like a prison, I dreaded coming back from work each day. I stayed at backpacker hostels nicer than this!! If you're on holiday or here for work, you want to feel good in your living quarters.
2. noisy if you are facing the street. expect to hear shrieking from the bungee, cheerful drunkards singing at the top of their lungs, and of course the music from the clubs
3. NO OUTLETS for charging your electronic gear. I had to rearrange the room to access the sockets
4. filthy bathroom. stray hairs, dirty tile.. this was SO GROSS
5. if you use the laundry service, you have to pick it up from reception yourself. There's no directory to call for pick up, so you need to bring it down to the desk as well.
6. It's winter and the bed didn't come with any blankets. The closet only had one light blanket.
7. The bed is soft and the springs will poke you.
8. The decor... is dreadful. I've never even really noticed decor in hotels before in all the traveling that I've done. Being that this one is especially bad, i"ve finally taken notice.
9. awkard arrangement of furniture in the room. i had a few extra chairs in my tiny room. i'm wondering if they're just being stored here?
10. cold staff. they're just as unwelcoming as their rooms.
11. plumbing/water pressure issues. the water would shoot out of the faucet at different pressures. I felt like the kitchen faucet had a mind of it's own. The bathroom drainage was so loud I wasn't sure if something was going to fall apart on me or what..
Overall, this was an extremely uncomfortable stay. If you're trying to be on a budget, you're better off at a hostel paying 30% the price of this place and you get about the same quality.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, choose a room that doesn't face the street.

This hotel has location, location, location for the proximity to Auckland's restaurants and activities. Walking distance to most places. Our room was very comfortable and had most likely been recently refurbished. We were situated on the 1st floor and had no problems with outside noise. Like many international hotels car parking was on a first come first served basis and the $20.00 parking fee quite acceptable. Great breakfast selection and most enjoyable. Perfect for our 1 night in the city.

I'd not stay here again. Desk person, the manager no less, was more than rude. Despite advertising wireless as a room amenity the wifi is $15 a day. The room safes cost $2 a day. Bathroom was filthy and lots of stray hairs elsewhere. The entry to the hotel is frequented by street people. In short, look elsewhere. A $159 a night....there are lots of better choices—Rydges for one, just around the corner.

This hotel is bang in the middle of town, ideal for shops, restaurants, harbour and other activities. The hotel is OK, but the rooms do need a make over. All the facilities are available, and staff mostly helpful, but not the greatest of décor. The location is in a busy area, and although we had no problems with outside noise, others may find this not the case.

Room Tip: No specific rooms give you a view.

We found the reception staff to be very unhelpful and the hotel itself was more like a prison internally than a hotel. It might suit some backpackers but it certainly didn't suit us! Our room was in need of decoration and refurbishment, the airconditioning was so noisy and archaic that we couldn't use it. With the windows open instead we could hear all that was going on in the street despite being 14 floors up. Breakfast was fine and the waitress was lovely but the room itself looked and felt more like a canteen. We had to pre-book and pay for a parking space. We too are surprised that this hotel fulfills Best Western standards.
