“Nice neighborhood, nice staff”

We stayed here on holiday and had a pleasant experience. We arrived early in the morning after an international flight and the staff were incredibly apologetic that no room was ready, which we anticipated. We walked to the nearby Auckland Domain and visited a nearby restaurant. The room was clean, small-ish, and bright. Well-stocked kitchenette. The wall of windows made it easy to hear people on the walkway to their rooms but it was not noisy at night.

Stayed only one night. Our room was amazingly spacious overlooking harbour and city. Also had a small kitchen which we wern't expecting. The rooms were fresh and clean - decor appeared to have been updated. We enjoyed a nice evening meal in the restaurant.
We walked up to Parnell and even further!
Staff on reception helpful.
In winter or wet windy weather could be chilly going too and from room as open verandah.

Room Tip: Our 4th floor room on the end was quiet and spacious. A great hotel if you have a car.

Spacious and well presented family room with great views looking down to the harbour. Looks like the management has recently changed, so undergoing some updating, however everything very clean and tidy. Despite being full, the hotel was very quiet, and not impossible to park. Close to Parnell's restuarants, and only a few minutes drive into the CBD. Good touches (fresh milk in fridge, good quality coffee in the pot) - but watch out for the expensive wireless internet access (come on guys - this should be free!).

A perfectly OK hotel that seems to be used by tourists and conferences. Its main asset is a ravishing location, surrounded by leafy oak trees, in the posh neighborhood of Parnell. My room, a standard single, had an amazing view of Auckland city and harbour. There's a Japanese flag out front, so the hotel probably caters to Asian tourists often. A pretty Edwardian house that hosts functions is flanked by a 1960s cinderblock hotel, with a parking lot in between.

The hotel has recently changed ownership and vaunts its 3.5 million dollar renovation. Still, the gorgeous view was the sole ornament in the room - no pictures and no full-length mirror, leaving the white-and-red decor somewhat stark. The small, agreeable balcony had two plastic chairs. A good chunk of the room renovation money went to light-blocking curtains - all of us at our event commented that we slept well. Their "surface renovation" policy didn't go so well in the cramped bathroom, with a strangely elevated, small plastic tub that didn't impress, nor with a small, loud, and difficult to use heating unit.

Hotel service was impeccably well mannered but spotty because the place was jam-packed with Anglicans. I was there for an event that had catering, and the hotel's catering philosophy seems to be "Good plain tucker and plenty of it." This worked well for lunches, but I wasn't impressed with dinner, nor with a misunderstanding about whether the continental breakfast was included with my room rate. If I'd known it wasn't, I would have walked five minutes to one of the better bakeries in Auckland, Pandoro, just around the corner.

Apart from that, lots of little hotel moneymaking dodges came to light - the whole continental breakfast thing; a bar person confessed that the fountain sodas at the hotel's cash bars were generic, not branded; Internet was expensive and spotty; a cab called by the hotel that was supposed to be $45 to the airport turned out to be $75, for some reason. While I didn't have a bad stay, these things stick in the memory. If I went back, I'd go because of the quiet and the parking, and I wouldn't eat a meal there. Rooms do have fridges.

Thank you for your review, and your comments on the room decor have been noted for future upgrading of our guest rooms, which is an ongoing process. We have commenced installing art work in all of our rooms, and hope to complete the process in the near future. Most of our balcony chairs have already been replaced and this project will also be completed early on in 2013.
We have recently installed a new internet system into our property, and this is functioning very well now at reduced rates. Could you please let me know by return on e-mail gm@theparnell.co.nz your name and date of departure to the airport, as we have an arrangement with a cab company for a flat $45 rate to the airport, and if you were quoted this rate but charged more then I will arrange for a refund from our cab company, as will as investigate as to what occured here.
Hopefully we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Quality Hotel Parnell in the near future, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Very disappointed in this quality hotel. Seriously should be a comfort hotel. Very dated, ie 60's cabinetry in kitchen and bathroom. grossed out by human hairs in bathroom. Previous visitors soap left in bath. Very old sheets that did not look clean and are more than ready to be rags. Nice updated decor thou. But place is well past it's use by date, for a quality hotel.

Thank you for your feedback and we are very disappointed to see that your experience in one of our rooms was less than satisfactory. Our Housekeeper has followed up on your comments with our cleaning staff, and removed from our laundry any linen which isn't up to our usual standard.
If convenient to you, I would appreciate it if you could send an e-mail through to me on gm@theparnell.co.nz to let me know which room you stayed in, and I will check the state of the kitchen and bathroom as we are looking at upgrading these areas on the next phase of our renovation. Excellent place to stay for late night arrival-night porter Dudley very helpful. Excellent value, room good.
Returned later for 2 further nights in suite, well planned and equipped, spacious. Kitchenette good for very early breakfasts.
Good parking and storage.
Slept well, quiet location.good view over city
Restaurant perfectly satisfactory .
Ok location for city bus.
Air heating system noisy.wifi bit pricey and slow

We have just gone live today on our new wifi installation, and you will find on your next visit our wifi coverage and speed is much improved, and we are now able to provide better value for this service. We stayed in a 2 bedder with our newborn. Rooms were nice with views, clean and a bit more modern than I expected. Location was good just down from Parnell shops Staff were all very friendly and very helpful. I was very impressed. Very good value as well
