“Functional But Noisy”
Reviewed 23 December 2011

Our last night in New Zealand,The Scenic in Auckland let us down but the staff rallied to help with our sleep. The Scenic is a typical corporate tower block over priced and soulless and very noisy ventilation noises and street alike, but the staff are very helpful.
It was impossible to sleep in our first allocated room and were moved just before 1a.m and so got some much needed sleep before our flight to San Francisco.
Do yourself a favour stay in Devonport and get the ferry in to explore the city

Room Tip: Don't accept no 813

Stayed one night only. Alot of noise from street makes it a hard nights sleep and being a Monday night I would hate to think of the level of noise on a weekend night. Bed double only, Room felt it needed a good spring clean.Wouldnt bother staying there again. Questionable 4 star. Staff however were very good, efficent and polite.

We stayed here 3 separate nights during a recent holiday. The hotel is in a great spot in the centre of the city. The rooms are lovely with kitchen facilities, something we didn't have in Wellington and Christchurch. The first 2 rooms we had didn't have anywhere for suitcases but the third room was much bigger with more bedroom space. The beds have a very soft mattress protector on them, which makes them a bit hot, like sleeping on a doona. 1/2 hour of free internet per day on a good computer in the lobby was appreciated, but the $4.50 charge for using a phone card wasn't. Valet parking was $20.

Room Tip: the rooms on the Queen St side are much bigger.

The layout of the 'room'. You could partition off the bedroom if wanted, spotless, great linen & bed. A dishwasher no less! And a range-hood, just everything if you wanted to cook in your room, oven etc. Being a lone woman traveller, I really appreciated the security lock on the door. Air-con worked exc. Decent place to stay and so close to everything. The valet car service was great. Price was excellent value. Room service exc. Prices of breakfast (didn't look at dinner ones) exorbitant compared to what was available 50 seconds away.

Room Tip: I had a room on the 5th floor facing the main st, Queen St, quiet with windows shut. The windows ope...

The room, equipped with a smal kitchenette, was very basic, but clean and comfortable. The place is about 10-15 minutes walk from the harbour. The airport bus stops just outside. The breakfast is expensive, but there are several cafes nearby where you can get a coffee and a muffin the size of a newborn’s head for a much more reasonable price. No free Wi-Fi available.

I stayed for 2 nights in November. The room was on the 7th floor and perfectly adequate for one person or a couple - the bed was in a sort of alcove which could be closed with folding door, thus completely hiding it from view. There is a small kitchen in the room. The location is very good, some 10 minutes walk to the Sky Tower and maybe 15 minutes to the waterfront. Being so high up, I did not have any problems with noise from the street.
This is good value accommodation, nothing luxurious but I did not expect any luxury. It was perfect for me as I was just passing through Auckland and wanted something central and not too expensive.

Its got two things I like - a bit of quirkiness (its art deco) and cheap fast internet ($10 per day).
