We stayed overnight at the Scenic on our way to Rarotonga. Its a wonderful location so handy to everything and very clean and service from front desk was wonderful. Room price was so redasonable!!! They have a cheap deal with a taxi company so it only cost us $35 to get to the airport, so cheap!!! They have a great system for storing your bags, whereby they check them in and put tickets on the bags and take them away. Other places give you an access card to a room and I don't feel secure leaving my bags where other guests can have access. Only down side about this hotel is it older and not doubleglazed which is why on the way back from Raro, where we were getting to hotel at 4am and wanting to go straight to bed, we chose another hotel that was doubleglazed so we could get some sleep. With construction just opposite that makes it even worse. If you are a sound sleeper this won't bother you.

Room Tip: While construction is going on ask for a room away from Airedale Street if you need some sleep durin...

Great locatin in the centre of Auckland city. Rooms are very well furnished, has a well equipped kitchenette, gererous selection of tea, coffee and even hot chocolate. The only negative is the construction site on Airdale St.- request for a room away from construction and on higher floor (to minimise Queen Street traffic noise). Wish the windows were cleaner though. Excellent, friendly and helpfull front desk staff. Small lobby bar is good for a quiet drink too.

Room Tip: Request for a room away from construction on Airdale St and on higher floor (to minimise Queen Stree...

This is a great little hotel in the very centre of Auckland. The room was spacious and well appointed and as it was shoulder season very reasonable, though if noise bothers you you might ant to ask for a room away from the road. Staff are helpful and pleasant. We would stay again.

Room Tip: ask to be away from the road,

Solo trip to Auckland to see a show at the Civic and have stayed here before. Well worth the extra $10 to upgrade to the superior room. Ideal for a short stay and very handily located to the theatre so not far to walk back after the show at night.
Had stayed here before and could even have been in same room #603 as it was identical. Had no problems whatsoever with noise. Previous reviewers had mentioned a nightclub but my room was facing a side street so no noise from there. There is construction going on across the road though. Early in the construction process and they weren't working weekends so was not bothered by that but possibly as the construction continues this may change.
Only disappointment was the room service meal I ordered. Last time it had been lovely, hot and delicious, this time was just warm and not as nice. But still edible.
Would happily return for another solo trip or with my family

Room Tip: 603 - superior room was excellent for my needs

The Scenic Hotel is perfectly fine for a short term stay in the centre of Auckland. Our room was very nicely furnished, the bathroom small but ample (small shower), the bed extremely comfortable (although VERY soft because of the gorgeous padded mattress topping). The only thing was it was a bit noisy through the night with street noise and people coming and going (maybe this was because it was a Saturday night). However we closed the windows and used the excellent air conditioning. Perfect location for us as we went to see a show at the Civic Theatre....about 3 minutes walk away!

This hotel was the last stop on our tour of New Zealand and had been booked by the travel agent who booked our flight – in other words, it was chosen for me. As it was very reasonably priced I did not really expect much and regarded it as a means to an end – i.e. to stay in Auckland for two nights prior to flying on to Australia.

To my surprise and delight we really loved it. The hotel building used to be the art deco MLC Building, originally built in 1957. We were allocated an apartment style room on the 6th floor overlooking Queen Street opposite Auckland’s Town Hall. The room was of a fair size and contained a kitchenette with sink, microwave, toaster, fridge and crockery etc. There was also a table/desk with three chairs, a 2-seater settee, single armchair, coffee table and a large flat screen TV.

There was a separate bedroom containing a double bed (English size double – the smallest we’d slept in during our tour, but very comfortable), 2 bedside cabinets, a wardrobe and ironing facilities. The shower room was reasonably large. Other reviewers have said it was nosiy having a room overlooking Queen Street, maybe it was because we were on the 6th floor, but we had no problems.

We don’t normally eat in hotels as they are usually expensive, but considering this hotel was on one of the main streets of Auckland we were pleasantly surprised at the prices and ate our breakfast and evening meals there for both days. The food was good quality and the staff were very friendly – especially Kevin.

Wifi is available – I can’t remember how much it was but it was a lot cheaper than a subsequent hotel we visited in Cairns, Australia. Another plus is the location – only about 1 km to the Quay – about 10 minutes walk - and the Airbus stops right outside the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Valet parking, clean reception, nice bar area. I rate this as a good, basic, clean hotel. If you need a bed in central Auckland that's not expensive then this is perfect.
