Good hotel for stay in Auckland. Location is perfect, main street, close to everything. Shuttle to the airport stops next to the hotel entrance.
Room is very good and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Hotel is good value for money. I can recommend this place to everyone

The hotel is ideal for visiting Auckland and our room had a kitchenette with microwave and fridge, and very comfortable bed, just right after 24 hours on a plane. As the weather was good the aircon didn’t really cool the room down, but the windows did open. We stayed on a Saturday night and it was a little noisy but no more than any town would be. For those self-catering there are convenience stores within a couple of minutes walk and a Metro supermarket less than 10 mins away. The hotel is 20 mins walk from the harbour. We eat in the adjoining MLC restaurant one evening and the food was very good; my steak was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for front room as at the side they empty the bins at 5am! There are three lifts so the higher th...

Excellent location for our purpose. We wanted to stay close to Imax which was perfect. I was a little worried about the noise as stated in a couple of reviews but we were fortunate to have a bedroom facing the back street. Spacious room. We got an excellent deal, full breakfast for 2 (delicious), valet parking (not always easy to get in town) and 2 hot drinks. We are likely to stay again especially if they have a similar deal. Highly recommend if you are not too fussy.

Excellent location right in the city, was very interested because of the Art Deco building. Plaster was peeling off& the shower was mouldy, but very nice spacious room& great service for the price paid. Would stay here again.

My daughter, sister and nephew and I stayed here for 4 nights in December, 2012. I was there for work but she joined me to help with babysitting. The hotel has semi-self contained rooms which are a bit small and some rooms have no bathtub. The bed was pretty comfortable and the little lounge areas are nice. The staff are quite lovely and helpful so absolutely no complaints there. This hotel is an easy walk to heaps of major locations in the city (especially cinema, pool, two universities) and the best Korean BBQ takeaway place is nearby- turn left at front door, cross the street at the light and it's on the corner. Yum yum yum. The breakfast and lunch food at the hotel is not that good and is expensive and takes its time emerging from the kitchen so just don't eat here. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The gym is NOT GOOD and hotel gyms are important to me as I often travel for work and need to exercise after sitting for long hours in planes and airports. Take the shuttle to and from the airport as taxis cost $80 each way!!

Room Tip: If you need a bathtub ask for it but some rooms on the corner with tubs are small.

Stayed a night in this hotel. It was in a very handy spot in town, outside is the bus stop for the airport bus. All shops and entertainment venues are in walking distance.
However, the hotel is on Queen Street and very noisy with traffic and the bar across the street and the live band. It really needs to be double glazed.

Room Tip: Get a room not facing the street

We stayed at the Scenic Hotel for one week during the World Championship Triathlon in October of 2012. This staff couldn't have been nicer. They accomodated a request to keep my bike for a few days (although I didn't end up needing this). They got us ice for my injured foot repeatedly, they left us extra towels and soap for all the extra workouts and showers. The hotel manager did fix our reservation for us and went to some difficulty to do so. We had initially reserved a king bed or two doubles and the hotel did not get this information. He did make it right, and even took us to a few different rooms in the hotel to see if they were acceptable. There was always someone at the front desk monitoring who was coming and going and the location was very safe, although it doesn't appear there is crime in New Zealand! I can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there. We did buy groceries and used the kitchenette in the room some of the time. A couple of things to watch out for - if you are a light sleeper, do not get a room facing Queen street - it is noisy. Also the night before we left for the aiport for home we returned to the Scenic and took an available room without worrying about where it was. Evidently, although this is a non-smoking hotel, the staff have some way to get outside on one of the floors and smoke, the smoke came into our room and it wasn't good. All in all, a great place in a fairly big city. United States hotel chains could get a few lessons from the Scenic's customer service.

Room Tip: Light sleepers should face away from Queen street.
