Husband chose this hotel for its proximity to his conference at AUT University, but I liked its location for my interests, the Auckland Art Gallery, the central city shops, and its ready access to the Link buses. The room, with its L-shape, was interesting: the bed was round the corner from the entrance and kitchen area, which gave a good feeling of privacy and enclosure. The downside was the lack of space (only 30 cm!) on one side of the bed, and no bedside table there, which meant that I had to get out of bed to put my specs away safely. The bed was extremely comfortable; it had a feather mattress topper that was lovely. The kitchenette had a sink, microwave, fridge, crockery cutlery and utensils, as well as a coffee plunger (most important!). The view of the Town Hall, Aotea Centre and Sky Tower was great. Service was friendly and prompt (a faulty ironing board was replaced promptly), and the cafe was fine. Free wifi was OK but came in one hour sessions in 24 hours so 23 hours apart -which in practice meant the access time shifted over the days to less convenient times -one session in the fixed period midday to midday would be better. Hubby especially liked its boutique-hotel feel and the wide choice of local cafés and cafe-restaurants. No noise problems from the street in our 8th floor room. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: A room on the 8th floor overlooking the Town Hall gives a good view and plenty of light.

Warm and friendly welcome, easy check in. I was impressed with the rooms cleanliness, however I wasn't impressed with 8 inch gap at the side of the bed that I had to get in! - hence I crawled up from the bottom! Bed was really soft, felt like a waterbed almost, I slept well until… the noise started. 2.30am and the side road seems to be a meeting place for the local hoodlums! It was Saturday evening, but still this went on for 2 hours. This has seriously put me off rebooking at this hotel, which is a shame as (apart from the bed) I thought it was very pleasant. I noticed someone else commented their bathroom wasn't clean, ours was so could have been an oversight perhaps? There are also lovely little bathroom accessories that you can take home with you.

Room Tip: Don't get a room that opens up onto Airedale Street.

Interesting and pleasing heritage building in a great location at the top end of Queen Street, not too busy or noisy, despite its glazing constraints. Great beds and a reasonable amount of room (by Singapore standards!) and views over the city. Efficient and welcoming front-of-house, reasonable small restaurant (MLC) attached that do fantastic fish and chips as well as happy hour specials ... would readily return depending on price deal!

Room Tip: Go high ... ask for good views ...

The service was great, and the location was good as well. The front desk was very helpful in pointing out transportation to take and sights to see. The rooms were fine but nothing special. The bathroom however was disgusting. Hair was all over the floor when we checked in which is unacceptable. Will look for a cleaner hotel next time we visit.

This hotel is centrally located, across from Town Hall and Aotea Centre which makes its an excellent choice if you are attending events. The room was very clean and I was impressed (surprisingly) by the toiletries and the small kitchen in the room. The layout of the hotel room was pleasing as there was a kitchen with small table, a sitting areas and then the bed which was in recessed alcove. Note: my window faced a brick wall, so don't expect 'scenic' views - granted, the hotels is a 'historic' building.

I did not try the restaurant but the menu offerings looked quite good. In the surrounding area, there are many Asian restaurants - my favourite is Tanuki's Cave which is across the street, at the SE corner of Queen and Mayoral.

I was very impressed by the friendly and professional nature of the staff. I was warmly greeted by the hotel staff upon arrival and this lasted throughout my stay. For instance, staff members would constantly greet me when I arrived/left the hotel, call the elevator and ask if I needed assistance. From the look of other reviews, this seems like others have had similar experiences with the staff and they (the staff) should be commended!

The Staff were very friendly. The added service of car valet services was great with parking being a premium for old year eve. The room was tidy and clean . The hotel was quiet for the 31st. We would stay again.

Nice hotel although a little tired in places. Very clean and most rooms a nice size. Staff were excellent and very friendly and were a credit to the hotel. They made a huge fuss of our daughter. They are also rugby mad which was a bonus and chatted through when watching games in the bar. Bar food was very good.

Room Tip: Get a room on the back if you can as traffic can be noisy although rooms with lounges have doors to...
