This hotel has a lot of potential, but they seem to be letting it get run down. The walls in our room were scuffed and dirty, the shower had quite a bit of mold in the tile grout, and the furniture in our room was worn, as were the couches in the lounge area. The hotel brochures were outdated -- one of the hotel bars had been closed for a while now, yet it was still advertised in several locations as having a happy hour. One of the front desk clerks told us that happy hour was going on in another bar instead, but when we went up there, they had no idea what we were talking about. The service was hit & miss. We got excellent service from some employees, and poor/unfriendly service from others. Dissappointing.

Stayed three nights at this hotel in Feb 2008. Front desk staff service was terrible and unhelpful. Our room door bell not working, water in the kettle, bathroom speaker not working and there was a note left near the phone from previous customer. When we check-out in the morning. front desk was in chaos, there were three queues, no sign which one was for check-in and which one was for check-out. Fortunately the queue we chosen was check-out queue. Two guests in front of me, after queuing for 10 minutes, were told by the front desk staff that the queue for check-out only so they have to queue up again in another queue.

  • Disliked — Poor service of front desk staff.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights before starting a tour Dec 2007 & loved everything about the hotel. The room was spacious, nice modern bathroom & very clean with all the luxuries. Was on the 7th floor with a nice surrounding view. Aircon was no problem. Free internet on the ground floor which was great & as other post several entries was good. Afew minutes walk from markets, Imax & Queen street, about a 15 min or so walk to the harbour.

Great indoor pool, sauna & gym which was one of the best I've seen. Never used the restaurant but looked OK. Staff friendly & efficient - would definately stay there again.

Booked a deluxe room for 2 nights, which is plenty of time in Auckland & for jet lag recuperation. We arrived about 8:30am from the airport just worn out and were so pleased they had a room ready for us. It was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom which was CLEAN. I can't say enough about the staff's super quick and pleasant response to all our requests. We had dinner delivered from an Indian restaurant & room service brought us plates, cutlery & ice - no charge. It's close to Queen St & all the CBD shops. Yes, a small TV with so-so reception, but we didn't go to NZ to watch TV, so not an issue for us. We were on the 5th floor and A/C worked very well.

We stayed a 2nd time the night before we flew home in a similar room on the 8th floor. Same great service but the shower floor was grotty with mildew. We made the mistake of eating breakfast downstairs. It was awful. We both ate a bit of fruit and left the rest barely nibbled. They removed the charges ($60 for 2) after my husband mentioned it at checkout. I meant to take photos and forgot.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the staff, quick and positive response to all requests, comfy bed.
  • Disliked — Shower grot 2nd trip

I recently stayed for 4 nights on a business trip to Auckland. The hotel is situated on Mayoral Drive which is about a 5 minute walk to Queen Street and maybe a 15/20 min walk to the Harbour and ferries.

The Hotel itself has a large atrium with rooms on I believe 12 floors. There are various rooms, but on this ocassion, I just stayed in a standard deluxe room. The standard of the room is fairly as expected. Clean and comfortable. Probaby seen better days but perfecty fine all the same. Stains on carpet and chairs. TV was quite small and "in the box" variety. The TV's reception was not always great and teh remote was a pain to operate. Room definately needs updating in this respect.

The bathroom was very clean and spacious with seperate bath and shower. Towels were plentiful but a bit scratchy.

Air.con was problematic and an engineer was sent to the room twice. On entering teh room , it was very hot even although the thermostat was on its lowest setting. Apparently a "valve" was stuck and thsi prevented the aircon from becomming cooler. However, this happened twice and was a bit of a pain. They do come to the room quickly though to resolve this issue.

Internet can be available in the room at a charge. They have various plans but basically around $34 New Zealand Dollars for 24 hrs. When I called to enquire about charges before booking, I was told that broadband was free in the rooms, only WIFI connections were charged. However, this was not true an dI was told that " I must have spoken to a casual member of staff:. Apologies given but no real compromise on charges made at all. Infact no reduction was given at all!!!!

I like this hotel because it is very anonymous and you practically see no-one during your stay. Many exits without having to walk past reception. However, security seems non existant as anyone can walk in and access any floor , unlike most hotels which only allow access to the floor you are staying on! However, I am sure this is not the case and that security is just subtle!!!!!

Overall, I had very few complaints and the hotel served its purpose. They offer very good rates on their own website. I have stayed in their club suites before and they are much more comfortable and spacious with a flatscreen tv and much better toiletries. Club room has a nice view but the standard and availability of food and beverage has decreased in both quantity and quality.

We stayed in a balcony suite for the last night of our honeymoon - biggest hotel room either of us has ever been in and my wife travels alot and stays in quite nice hotels for work. The view was great from the balcony, though it was a bit cold to use.

The shower is the best I've ever had in a hotel - great pressure!

A bit of advice though - don't pay for the breakfast buffet. We had it comped to us, and it was good, but it's no where near as good as the cost ($20pp I believe).

  • Liked — The size of the balcony room, and close proximity to restaurants downtown
  • Disliked — The breakfast

Excellent. Would stay again any time.

Self booked a two night pre-cruise stay and was completely surprised by how great everything was. Rooms were very, very tasteful and nicely furnished - not overly large, but fine for my short stay.

Every staff member was welcoming and made a fabulous effort to satisfy. Location is good, quite a lot to see and do within a short walk.

I can't imagine anyone being disapointed here!
