“Comfortable, Stylish hotel in the heart of the city”
Reviewed 3 December 2008

Found Rendezvous hotel to be a nice and stylish high rise hotel with all amenities available. Spent only one night so couldn't try out all their amenities. Rooms were nice and spacious with mini bar, large desk, closets and an excellent bathroom (shower and bath tub).

Impressive lobby (see photo) and public areas (shopping, conference rooms, bars and restaurant). One thing I noticed is that the hotel was getting to be a little old and it's about time for a renovation (the lifts all had old wood and those golden coloured hand railings; carpets in the room and public hallways were also well worn down - all signs of a hotel that was top notch 10-20 years back and now trying to keep up with all the neon competition)

Overall a good stay - walking distance to Auckland's CBD attractions (Skytower, Wharf etc)

  • Liked — Location and Grandeur
  • Disliked — The age was showing in their wood, fittings, carpets etc

My partner and I recently spent a couple of nights in one of their Balcony Suites. This was the second time we have stayed in their suite and it was just as good this time.

The suite is presented very nicely, living area with a seperate bedroom and ensuite of the bedroom (guest toilet off the living area). Huge balcony which gets the sun until about 5.30 pm - so perfect for pre-plaza club drinks.

Plaza Club offers pre-dinner drinks and canapes and also a continental breakfast in the morning. This time around we tried both - and both were fantastic. Yummy croissants and pastries for breakfast.

Went swimming this time as well - quite a large lap pool and the perfect temperature.

The staff were helpful and when we arrived were able to take our luggage and hold this for us as we had to rush off for an appointment.

We will definately be staying again at this hotel - it is our 'special occasion' hotel in Auckland, the combination of the room, services, plaza club and location all combine to make a great stay.

Having just stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel in Melbourne which was great I had very high expectations for my stay in Auckland. Not only were these expectations met they were surpassed in flying colours.

This hotel is very modern, very clean and very, very comfortable. I was allocated room 845 which was very spacious with a double bed, desk and chair, armchair and coffee table and lots of storage space.

My bathroom was probably the largest bathroom I have ever had while staying in a hotel. Spacious shower cubicle, bath and marble topped washbasin, large mirror and tiled walls. I wish my own bathroom at home was as large and as nice.

On my first night after a long day I ordered room service which was delivered in about 15 minutes of placing my order. The food was hot and delicious. Never ate in the restaurant downstairs but I feel as if I missed out on a treat.

Hotel staff were excellent and polite especially the concierge and reception staff. My arrival into Auckland during a heavy rain shower was very tiresome, but mainly because I was ripped off by my taxi driver who knew where all of the red lights and traffic hold ups were between the airport and the hotel. I was very annoyed and shocked to be charged NZD88.00 and once I had checked in I spoke with the concierge who rang the taxi firm and complained on my behalf. I think they were called citicabs avoid at all cost.

Anyway back to the Rendezvous loved the atrium which is very well decorated and stylish though a lit bit lacking in soul. Loaction wise the hotel is within easy walking distance of the City Hall, Sky Tower and the shopping area of Queen Street. Though its all up hill if your walking back to the Rendezvous after a full day of sightseeing.

To head back to the airport I avoided catching a cab and took the Airbus Express the stop is just 5 minutes walk away from the Rendezvous outside the Airedale Hotel. Price just NZD15.00

Will definetly stay at the Rendezvous on my next visit.

We got great rooms at a great rate at the Rendezvous. The room was fabulous, clean and way above average in size and amenities. We had no trouble checking in (we were in spring, before cruise ship time) and the conierge desk was very helpful. The only negatives were the breakfast buffet was way overpriced and housekeeping did not respond to a minor problem - no remote in one of our rooms. The concierge took care of it, however. The hotel's located well and we walked everywhere.

The Rendezvous in Auckland is a very large hotel, and although we usually prefer small ones we liked it a lot.

First the slightly bad news: there was not much of a view from our room – just a block of flats and the police station (which seemed very tranquil). There is more of a view on the other side of the hotel, but really only of the city buildings. If it’s a sea view you need then you need to be at the harbour side.

The building itself is very impressive, with a huge atrium as you step inside. It looks like a quality establishment, and it really is.

Our room was a good size, well-furnished, with an excellent bathroom with bath and separate shower. There was a very large flat screen TV and plenty of storage space.

We upgraded to the Plaza Floors (or something of the sort) which gave us access to the 12th floor for a light breakfast and early evening drinks and canapés. It was excellent value. However you have to get there early in the evening or there won’t be many nibbles left.

It's quite near to the main shopping street, and so although it looks on the periphery of the city centre, it is actually quite convenient. We'd go back.

Stayed here on our first weekend in NZ. Very smart, cool hotel and ideally placed for exploring the city. Check in was easy staff very friendly. Room smart and modern if not a little small for three people. Clean and well maintained. Only downside was a very cold indoor pool (no wonder it was empty) and a slightly impersonal bar area. Enjoyed the stay and will do so again next time we are in Auckland

Stayed 5 nights in the balcony suite. Room looks like the picture on the website minus the plants. Small living area but a big bedroom and bathroom which made up for it. Too bad the living area didn't have the plants as it was a bit blah without them. Just one small complaint is that the bedspread had black stains on it when we arrived.

Housekeeping was fantastic - didn't see them at all but always returned to an immaculate room. Room service was great, from the time we ordered to the time the food arrived was 30 minutes or less, friendly and polite staff - no complaints there. Only had breakfast in the Plaza Club once - no hot food available (not sure if this is the norm or due to the late hour/day we went - 10am) only cereal, breads, spreads and muffins - orange juice was fresh and delicious.

Pacific restaurant had great food, yummy desserts and again great service. Same with the atrium bar - Brad the bartender was fantastic and very professional.

Found the underground tunnel to Aotea Centre very handy and the hotel is only a short walk to SkyCity casino and downtown. Perfect location.

Checkin and checkout only took 3-4 minutes. Will definately go back again.

My only suggestion to the Hotel would be to update their furnishings i.e., cushions, bedspreads, lamps and bulbs as some of these were quite old/faded.

  • Liked — Large and luxurious bathroom, large comfortable bed and the great room service/housekeeping.
  • Disliked — The old/faded furnishings - stains on the bedspread. Also the balcony was directly across from the deluxe room windows - not much privacy, we didn't use the balcony at all due to this.
