No problems with this hotel. The room was large, clean, and quiet. The hotel was walking distance from Sky Tower and downtown.

We stayed for 2 days in this hotel. The staffs were ok (not as friendly as Mercure HOTEL), but the quality of the room, mattress, bathroom (everything was excellent). The buffet breakfast was quiet good. It's about 15minutes walk to the centre of the city. This is the best hotel during our stay in North Island.

I found a very good price on internet and booked 1 double room for 3 nights. I was actually surprised to find such a price for a 4 stars hotel.....and guess what?? What they gave me definitely was not a 4 stars hotel room. It was very old, linen dusty, the television came directly from the 80's . the overall service was below avarage and the aisle to my room was under restauration....smelling of paint everywhere.
The room was quite big but the quality was the one of a basic 3 star hotel.

We landed in Auckland and spent a night at this hotel before heading on our journey into the northland. The hotel had huge spacious rooms, and the package gave us free parking, free complimentary drinks upon our arrival and free full buffet breakfast. Check-in was quick and efficient. The only problem we had was that the parking entrance not clearly marked forcing you to circle the block one more time (amongst several one-way streets) in order to access the underground parking. When you are trying to get used to driving on the other side, one would rather eliminate any additional driving in the city if possible.

Travel to Auckland a lot. This is the third time I have stayed here and will be the last. Although I get cheaper rates each time I book the quality gets worse. Room on the second floor (always seem to get 2nd floor) is in desperate need of a spring clean, drapes coming off runners, dust around plugs, air conditioning, dirt on wall tiles in bathroom, TV remote didn't work (they came up and replaced though), clock radio alarm didn't work, No broadband instructions (later found this down the back of the desk along with about 6 months of dust. They no longer deliver you a free newspaper in the morning to read while enjoying your $21 toast and cup of coffee in the morning (unless you upgrade to a Club Room - when I stayed in 2008 you did get a newspaper). Katsura restaurant getting more expensive, less portions and long wait even though not busy.

I have stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel twice in the past 6 weeks!

The customer service I received both times was excellent - friendly, efficient, and courteous staff - from the reception/check-in people to the conceraige - I only had to look in their direction and I was dutifully attended to!

Rooms are a reasonable size - stayed in a 2 x double bed room each time. There was a bath in each bathroom, toilet, and a separate shower.

I would definitely recommend this hotel if you wish to stay somehwere central in Auckland's CBD district. It is an easy 5-10 minute walk into Queen Street, and is perfect for shows at the Aotea Centre, Civic Theatre etc.

Save yourself $13 by self-parking your car (as opposed to $25 valet parking). Tthe car park entrance is on Mayoral Drive, however it is quite narrow and actually finding a carpark can be a challenge if there is a large event at the hotel or neighbouring venues!

The tepid lap pool was also well patronised both times I have stayed there.

The only complaint was that the second time I stayed there my room was opposite a room with an outside balcony which had several very talkative female guests who chatted loudly until 3:00am - despite not having any windows open (because there isn't any!) this prevented me from getting a peaceful sleep until they had stopped talking!

The Rendezvous (formerly the Carlton) is well located near the Aotea Centre, and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with particularly large bathrooms. However in the 2 nights we were there, our room was not made up - despite pressing the button for housekeeping when we left in the morning, and telling the guy who came to check the minibar that we were going out, we returned several hours later to find nothing had been done. By that stage we wanted to rest so all we got, upon request, were some fresh towels.

Also we discovered, rather painfully, a total of 3 needles (sewing) on the floor, one of which was broken. Have no idea if the room had previously been occupied by a seamstress, but housekeeping certainly needs to get its act together.
