“Great hotel, centrally located”
Reviewed 15 September 2009

I think the best part about our visit to Auckland WAS the hotel. I booked a deluxe suite for around $115USD for two nights and was truly surprised by the quality of the stay. The room had a nice living room, kitchen, even a washer and dryer! Great linens, easy walk to just about anything in the city. Just great. They do charge $30/night for parking, but it's worth it if you can get the right price for the room.

My husband and I stayed at City Life Hotel for 1 night before flying out of Auckland Airport. This hotel is located in the busy streets of downtown and is within walking distance to the Harbour, Sky Jump, Viaduct, shopping, restaurants & more. It reminded me of staying in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The bell service & concierge went out of their way to give us directions, instructions & any additional info. We felt like VIPs. We had a room on the 22nd floor and heard no noises as other reviews stated. It was a clean & trendy 1 bedroom and we loved it. We had a rental car and the hotel was a little hard to find. The valet parking & entrance are actually behind the hotel down a ramp (vs street address given) so I would call ahead & get better directions. Overall, we LOVED our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Dining:
Great restaurants located in the Viaduct. We ate at Soul, per the Frommer’s Guide, and chowed down on the whitebait fish fritters as appetizer and lots of other great food. It’s more upscale dining so be prepared for the bill. Food & service were excellent!!

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. One of the reasons we booked this Hotel was because of the Swimming Pool. So when we arrived late looking forward to a swim, you can imagine our disappointment to be told that it was closed for two days maintenance. This was made worse when we later found out that the Hotel reception had got it wrong and it was open the night we arrived and closed from the following morning ! (Hotel Management have since apologised and promised an upgrade for the future)

However we were able to use the facilities at the nearby Heritage Hotel which included a roof top pool under the Sky Tower and this was fantastic with great views. From the night we arrived the Concierge Service at the hotel were fantastic with advice, guidance, booking trips and finally negotiating a good rate on our return taxi to the Airport. Unlike the USA i almost had to force a tip on them, which i felt was very well deserved. This hotel is in a good location near shops, the Sky Tower and a short walk to the water front. We had a one bedroom suite which had a small kitchen area, washing machine, dryer and was very well appointed, clean and well serviced. We did'nt use the Hotel Rwstaurant and chose the Waterfront Restaurant for lunch which was good.
Other things of note:
Use the free Red tourist Bus to get around and a cheap Green link Bus
Maritime Museum is worth a vist at the water front
Auckland Bridge climb fantastic experience and well worth it
Sky Tower worth it and fantastic views over the City

We stayed at the CityLife hotel for 5 days when we first arrived in NZ. We stayed in a 1 bed suite as we wanted to have the kitchenette & laundry. The room was nice and spacious, had a double bed in the separate bedroom and next to that was the bathroom which had shower which was really good and plenty of complimentary products. The lounge area was fine with a sofa, chairs and table and big TV, and the kitchen was fine with a dining table & chairs, fridge, oven, hob, microwave, kettle etc and washing machine and separate dryer. The kitchen stuff wasn’t the best and had seen better days, the pots, pans and cutlery were the worst and our oven just smoked like mad when we turned it on (so didn’t bother again!). It had air conditioning and heating in one which worked fine.

The room was clean but oh my god the cleaners took forever to get round to us to clean our room. We were on a high level floor but even so we had to wait until around 4.30pm most days to get in our room, and when we came back to them doing it they took nearly an hour to service it (and no we weren’t messy people!).

Another bit annoying thing was as we were on a high level (all the 1 bed suites are) the lifts take ages to come! And in the mornings they are mainly full of cleaners and trolleys so you can’t fit in and have to keep waiting for lifts!

The hotel had a bar and restaurant but we didn’t use it, and we parked in a car park opposite when we had a car for a day as it was cheaper than the valet parking.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, just in the middle of Queen St so right next to all the shops/cafés/restaurants and only a 5 mins walk to the Sky Tower.

Overall it was a nice room with everything we needed, but just the housekeeping got on our nerves a bit towards the end of the stay as we’d be out all day and at 4.30pm just want to come back and relax for a bit.

Good quality place to land or before you travel home, check prices as there are some great rates and you are near all Aukland has to offer.

We arrived at the CityLife after a short three hour flight from Sydney.
The reception was very efficient, the concierge run by Jacky was super efficient and also proved to be very helpful when we needed help and advice.
We had a two bed room suite that was very comfortable and my wife fell in love with the big bed.
The position is fantastic as it is right on Queen Street the main shopping road in Auckland and is just a short walk from the Sky City Tower.
There is not a lot to say about the hotel, there was nothing I could complain about, the lifts were efficient, the food on room service was nice and when we had finished our two weeks running around the North Island in a camper van we chose to spend our last night in New Zealand back at the CityLife where we all had hots baths and a great nights sleep in a comfy bed.

Citylife was the perfect hotel in Auckland for me and my husband. It's excellent location, clean spacious well appointed rooms, and value for money made it one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.
We arrived early in the morning from french polynesia and the people at the check in desk were very friendly, helpful, and quick in getting us and our luggage to our suite.
The room had a good size kitchen with washing machine and dryer which we were very pleased about and there was a nice size table to have a sit down proper meal. There was a tv in the main room as well as the bedroom and the bed itself was large and comfortable. The separate air conditioning in both rooms were excellent.
We were lucky to be able to see the top of the tower from out of our window and this was an added bonus.
The location of the hotel was extremely central and so it was very easy to find everything we wanted. The tower was a 5 minute walk and there were lots of shops, restaurants and bars in walking distance including the ferry dock area.
We had a problem with Hertz on our trip and so had to have some faxes of vouchers sent to us from the UK. They arrived without a problem and were put in envelopes under our door. We also used the business centre to print out a few emails free of charge.
The internet was quite expensive sadly and it was based on the bandwidth that you used instead of the amount of time. This was the only disapointment we had with the hotel, however, we found the same problem in most hotels we stayed in in Australasia.
If we visit Auckland again we would definately stay at this hotel. It felt like a home away from home and after travelling for 6 months through south america and the pacific it was exactly what we needed.
