Copthorne Hotel Auckland City

First appearances of this hotel can be slightly disappointing and the checkin experience was very slow with just one staff member in attendance but once I reached my room everything was in order with clean bathroom, excellent view of the harbour to the north and the domain and Auckland museum on the other. If you like to walk its an excellent starting point for the City( 10 mins) and Parnell (20 mins). My big bugbear is no free wifi which seems antiquated in these days with every NZ public library having government funded wifi - please hoteliers provide the same service so we can contact loved ones whilst travelling.

Room Tip: Rooms on the harbour side and higher up will be quieter as Anzac ave is a busy road

A friend and I chose this hotel as we thought it was close to the city area where we wanted to be.Walking there from Queen street took us past massage parlours and seedy places and we were a bit concerned about the location of the hotel. However, we did find a better way to get there that didn't involve using those streets. The Reception manager was very helpful, the room very clean and tidy. The hotel seems to be getting on board with the eco friendly image. From our room, we could see the sea. The staff made it easy booking us taxis, providing local information and helping find our way round, was brilliant. Our room (206) was by the lifts and really noisy. That, too me was the only draw back.

Room Tip: The rooms by the lifts were noisy- particularly as Auckland had the all Blacks and Cirque du soleil...

This hotel is in a great location, just opposite the harbour and in the middle of the city.
Upon arrival, my wife and I waited around 20 minutes to be checked in. There was only one member of staff who was becoming increasingly stressed with the situation. A customer in front of me was being demanding and clearly this was taking its toll on the member of staff. When it was my turn to check in I was given a lecture about check in time( we arrived at 1230pm). I smiled and apologised for our early arrival and tried to express sympathy with the girl. However, she was already too flustered and seemed to want rid of me as quickly as possible!
The room was basic, but in need of some serious renovation. Reasonable price, excellent location, but don't get your hope up with this hotel!

The Copthorne hotel is located in Auckland city beside the High court should you need it for one reason or the other. Also in the area is Vector arena if you are in town for a concert. The staff are well dressed friendly and well trained. I stayed in a triple room with a harbour view the even numbers face the harbour. The room is ok a big tv, there are sound proof windows and a door opens to a tiny balcony. The bathroom is dated with a shower only and the a/c starts up with a clunk. A good budget option in the city.

Chose this hotel for the location. Easy walk to city centre, Viaduct Harbour, Britomart Station, Parnell, Museum and many restaurants and attractions. The hotel has a restaurant and small bar area. Staff were pleasant. The hotel is a little tired and dated. The basin in our bathroom had a big crack in it and the carpet in the room, the passageway and the lifts is very stained and worn looking. The room looked clean initially but then I discovered a ball of hair and fluff on the floor and dust under the cabinet. We did have a nice view over the city and out to the harbour.
Our double bed was fairly comfortable but was two singles put together and we could feel the split. It was rather odd having African type paintings in the lounge area and not something Kiwi. There is very limited parking at the hotel and is an additional $10 per night.

Room Tip: Request a room with a sea view.

We picked this hotel as a last minute after quickly running through wotif.com whilst we were in the city. From the options we looked through it was the cheapest with the cheapest parking (yes, you have to pay extra to park). The reception staff were friendly, my only beef was with the room itself. The toilet was difficult to flush and did not flush well, the tap in the shower had it's hot and cold water reversed and was near impossible to get a good temperature so I was constantly changing it. The room was definitely clean though and well presented. Great view of the city too. Oh and no reasonable free wifi in the room or lobby but you can access the internet through a computer in the lobby for a charge.
